Basically grease anything that spins/slides as the caliper moves. There should be 2 pins with rubber boots, pull them apart and grease it to death. No such thing as too much grease on brake hardware. Should look like these on a '98-02 As well as in

No, it's not normal. With one cylinder out power will be down of course, but the car should still be safe to drive and be able to maintain reasonable speed. Maybe more than one cylinder is dead?
