The car is now humming at idle at most redlights or running into Dunkin to get a coffee, not sure what the problem is but the humming is coming from the air filter box and when you pop the box it gets slightly louder, this problem is very annoying...Can anyone suggest a place to start looking for the source of this annoyance? Oh one more thing, if I tap the gas it goes away for a bit, Thanks

If it hums like the beatles, I'd check the tape deck...

On my 94 there was a loud foghorn like sound. Some big tube had to be replaced . There was a TSB on this. The tube was to the idle air circuit (I found my service invoice). Part number F5AZ9H308A, RVF. Seems to have cost 24.85.

Ok mook thanks that is probably the culprit. Tape deck could probably use a head cleaning

Eliminate components one by one, starting by removing the air filter. Take it out, then close the box again. Still humming?

Check all fittings and connectors on the air intake system.

You can make a very useful and CHEAP tool by cutting a piece of garden hose about 2-1/2 to 3 ft. long. Put one end to your ear, move the other end over the engine as it runs, like a stethoscope. You'll be amazed how useful this little 'tool' can be!

Good Luck!
