I have discovered that my 03 P71 has front door speakers - but they are not connected to the harness plug that goes into the back of the radio.

I suspect that they were disconnected by Ford so that they could be used to play the police radio sound.

Does anyone know where I need to reconnect them? I have hunted around but not found anything so far and I would rather not remove the dash unless necessary.

Take the door panels off. Remove the speaker and see what is and isn't plugged into the speaker.

I already did this. The wires to the front speakers are the same colors as normal CV's (white + white/black and Gray + gray/black) and lead out of the doors as normal. The plug for the radio has these same color wires in the normal positions also. Obviously, somewhere along the line, the wires are intercepted and diverted. I was hoping that there is some sort of connector at that point and that it can simply be reconnected to the normal place to re-establish the connection to the radio.

Unfortunately, the wires from the door disappear behind the dash - to find the interception will probably require removing the entire dash!

Surely someone has figured this out???

The bypass is on the right side, above the kick panel, if you look up along the "A" pillar, you will find a plug disconnected, plug the 2 half's together.

Bull - you are wonderful !

For future searchers on this topic...

Remove the plastic panel immediately forward of the passenger door. (To do this, pull the rubber door seal away at the corner - then pull the plastic panel rearwards - there are a couple of plugs hidden behind so you will have to pull.)

Now look hard up against the A pillar, just above the level of the bottom of the glove box. You will find 2 4-wire connectors that are disconnected. Plug them together and your front speakers are reconnected to the radio.

FYI, I just installed a JVC HD radio so we will see how that works. Certainly sounds better with all 4 speakers working!

I am aware of this FunkRider - thanks. Since I was posting for posterity I didn't want to assume that all readers would know this. We get a lot of young, inexperienced members reading this site.

It is my experience that instructions are best written to be clearly understood, rather than necessarily to use "correct" terminology.

If I remember correctly on my '01 Sport for the driver's door there are three screws that need to be removed. One on the very bottom center of the door panel and one on the left-side center of door panel. The third screw is hidden behind the door handle cover. You can pry the cover out with a small flat-head screw driver. The little cover thing should be notched somewhere to allow you to do it w/out scratching/breaking anything. Once you get those three screws out you can lift up and pull back and the door panel should come off.

PLEASE NOTE: On my passenger door panel there is a 4th screw located behind the door handle cover thingy. I almost broke my door panel pulling it so hard until I took a deep breath and looked to see what the hang up was. And for some reason there is a 4th screw on the passenger side.

Good luck!

If you go in the accessories forum there is an active topic on door panel removal - 95-02 and 03+ covered.

Worked for me also. Sounds much better with four speakers than two.
