Well i finally got around to installing my Lincoln Continental Floor console and Shifter. I was going to scrap the project at first and sell it but the buyer never responded so I decided to just do it. After spraying and color matching to my interior i was ready to install it, it was by far the SCARIEST mod i've done to my car, I first had to cut the seat down to standard buckets. This was done by removing the armrests, seat covers, cutting the outer indented foam and cutting the frame beneath with a sawzall. I then ground the edges, put in some round bar for strength (although it probably wasn't required) and the wrapped the old cloth cover around the foam and secured it underneath with plastic push rivets. Next was actually installing the console, I then had to cut the carpet, remove the plastic rear seat floor ducting, and slide the console with shifter in to position it just right. I then secured the shifter using carrage bolts through the tunnel (making sure they were cut down underneath for d/s clearance) and layed down some small sections of sound deadening where the factory carpet/insulator was removed. As of right now the shifter is NOT connected - Mechanically that is, all the outlets, o/d wire, and night illum is wired and functional, so I can at least control 4th gear untill I hook up the cable. I think it came out good, the seats, which I was worried of actually look normal, just going to give the cover a little more tweaking, I am also going to mount my scanguage behind the black retractable door where the ashtray/cigar lighter is, i will also cut the old ashtray assembly to the contour of the console for a neat look and eliminate the opening (it will be a non-functional filler). I will update this thread as I finish the details and extra goodies on the console.
Here are some pics while I was working and the almost finished product. :mecury:

All three pics are the same....
But, by your description, you are a bigger man than me to hack up my seats hoping it will turn out right...

Pretty cool. How hard was it to install? More importantly, how hard was the bench seat to cut down? Did you have to trim any of the cloth seat cover down? When you removed the armrests, were the holes visible?
The install only took about 2 hours (not including paint time) The hardest part was getting the plastic floor duct out through the smallest cut in carpet possible, Cutting the seats down took the least time, Only about 10mins each one, i did not trim the cover at all, just tucked & secured underneath. With the armrest off (& bracket removed) there are only two small slots in the fabric visible, the brackets for the armest are actually bolted underneath the fabric, then come through, then the cover plate goes over.
maybe you could do this too to make 2 96' Marquis "LSE"s

Heres a few more pcs, this one is of all the parts i had to remove. the black thing is the rear seat floor duct, the armrests are reassembled to not loose any parts, and the foam and frame sections of the two seats.
heres another of the UNTWEEKED seat cover, my dad actually came in a few mins ago and said he was playing wth it some and got it nice and even now *NOTE color difference is due to camera flash

Hey Drock, I see your comment in your signature...."slowly evolving into an LSE". What other plans you got for the car? I'm 100% curious. Nice job on the console. I would had to sawsall off my arm before cutting into the seats. You got more guts than me. Keep these homemade projects coming and let us know how you did 'em. Good stuff! Chris
