JohnG I know you say gears wont help with ET but just out of curiosity what RAR where you running?

By what you say you where running in your 99 as I only have a PI intake swap I would probably bet I am running more like 200 RWHP at the most.

Hoping to be around that 215 mark when I get my MM BOX/MAF and tune.

Transmission gearing affects where the enigne runs in the RPM band, NOT RAR.

Guys change RAR then claim it affects ETs, it doesn't. Different RARs result in different trans shift schedules ESPECIALLY with an AT, and THAT affects where the engine operates in it's power band.

In fact, the greatest mechanical advantage overall, occurs in 1st regardless of RAR. IF all the posts about lower RAR = better times BECAUSE they provide greater mechanical advantage, the fact that the greatest advantage occurs in 1st gear and the aount of time in 1st gear is REDUCED with higher RARs, completely contradicts those claims.

I thought it was clear when I used the term "gearing" (plural), that we were talking the transmission AND the rar. The two, IN conjunction (along with converter stall and shift schedule, as mentioned) can be tweaked (to the extent that one has alternative trans gearing available) to fiddle with the car's e.t. without altering hp levels from the motor.

As for the formulas and the online calculators, it's just theoretical math, and an ESTIMATION of HP. But you'll find that it's generally pretty accurate if you have a dyno-based hp and real-world ET to use for comparison (not an onboard which: 1) already is making this same estimating calculation; and 2) is notoriously inaccurate bc of wheelspin, etc.

Long time in 1st.

well since it was three pages ago since I kicked this can, I have enjoyed reading all the responses.
In reality, I am toothing and clawing to keep what I have currently.
I even like the look of the Vic LX Sport better than the LSE.
So, I'm not thinking much past the tune, box and Maf.

Sure, but you just resurrected it LOL so let's see if I can kick this horse again . . .

JohnG's 99 was 4460lbs
his ET was 15.55 with a trap of 88 MPH

Per my theoretical calculations, (in both mph and et vs. weight) he's around 234 or 237 at the wheels.

Slightly more generous than his ACTUAL dyno HP of 207 RWHP (on that day) but close enough for government work
and it illustrates my point that if you want to check someone's internet "claims"
get out a calculator (or find one online, as Zak pointed out, GreatLakesDragaway has plug-in versions) and do some math.
