Ok today I was driving along and the air bag light started to flash. It flashed 4 times, then 2 times and stopped. then repeated itself 4 more times in that order:

4...2

4...2

4...2

4...2

4...2

After the fifth time, I got a steady burn air bag light. What is the code? What is the problem and how is it solved? Thanks!

Didn't you install an air-horn recently, Tim?

I think you accidentally bumped the connector loose off the Air-Bag crash sensor behind the grille / on the header panel

Derek, this has nothing to do with the air horn as I didnt get to that project due to snow. I will PM you in reference to this.

Last time and only time I had an issue with the air bag was in May 2003. On May 5, 2003, (91196 miles) the dealer discovered the air bag monitor defective due to light being on. On May 6, 2006 I ordered the Air Bag Monitor for $153.56 (Part Number F6AZ-14B215-AC). On May 14, 2006 (91983 miles) I had it installed.

Update: I checked fuses 10, 13, 18 in reference to the Air Bag Module. All ok and not blown. I disconnected the battery and the code is still there.

Derek, do you have a pic of the LH sensor? My Haynes manual is useless to this as usual.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Derek for all your help! You rock!

For those that require a visual aide (like me), here are pics of the Crash sensors

LH (Drivers Side)

RH (Passenger Side)

Now, you will notice a red wire in the first 2 pics of the LH sensor that goes across the front (also visible in the RH pic). This is a dealer installed jumper wire of some sort from when they replaced the airbag monitor. An installer once cut this wire (thinking it was for old police equipment) and the airbag light instantly went on so they reconnected it.

So I checked the connections and all seem snug. I really am nervous working on airbag systems as I do not want it deployed on accident.

If Ford ever found out that a DEALER patched an SRS wire like that, they'd probably pull their franchise. If you're ever in a wreck & you have ANY injuries related to the airbags, you could win a HUUUUUGE judgement against that dealer, & possibly Ford too, for tacitly allowing them to do it.

AFAIK, no mfr. allows repairs of ANY kind to an SRS harness. I'd take the car back & invite them to replace that harness & fix your airbag light FREE, whether it's related to that wire or not.

you must remember, the monitor was replaced in 2003. That was 3 years ago. Now I am having a problem. I dont know if its related so I cannot prove it.

Sorry guys don't mean to jump in on your post but I also get an air bag light flashing, but it is flashing a code 21. I noticed by one of the above threads that it pertains to a "safing" sensor not correctly mounted to vehicle. what is this and where can i find its location. 96 cv 192400

normally behind drivers side kickpanel. if the safing sensor detects the crash sensor activate, then allows current to go to airbag to deploy. cant remember the exacts, but thats basically it in a nutshell. perhaps it fell off and isnt grounding now?

It doesn't matter how long ago they patched the SRS system - they're gonna have to fix it. And let THEM tell YOU it wasn't related AFTER they've fixed whatever the problem is at THEIR expense. It's their penalty for letting you drive around with that BS red wire for 3 years. They're lucky it's not your WIDOW or your lawyer talking to them. But don't hesitate to remind them of that if they give you ANY flak about it.
