Can anyone help with the reactivation of a late model P71 that currently has it's interior courtesy lights disabled? I did a file search and came up with some info but was for older P71's. Does this require a dealer to do a P.C.M. reflash or is there a way to reactivate ourself? Thanks.

I am sure you need the PCM re-programmed. I guess Ford got wise to the blue wire under the dash.

does not appear so, just looked at the diagrams at a dealership, the wiring is different from civilan vics. the p71 shows no sign of any interior lighting, switches etc.

We have been discussing 2006 dark mode on another CV site. Go here:

http://www.crownvic.us/forum/showthread.php?t=25661

Quote:

2006 Police Interceptor Modifier Guide, 9/2005
Wiring 2-23
Section 2: Wiring
Courtesy Lamp Disable (Dark Mode)
This option offers deletion of the illuminated entry function. Upon vehicle power-up, the lighting
control module (LCM) will not provide interior lighting during entry or exit of the vehicle. The
interior lighting will, however, still operate on demand whenever the dome lamp switch is active. If
the dark car feature is necessary, the assembly plant enables this feature through the LCM. The
vehicle can be reconfigured by entering diagnostics, enabling/disabling the courtesy lamps, and
then exiting diagnostics.
Use the following steps to disable the courtesy lamps:
1. Connect the NGS diagnostic tool with vehicle communication module (VCM) to the data link
connector (DLC).
2. Select vehicle - 2006 Crown Victoria 4.6L.
3. Select Diagnostic Data Link.
4. Select Lighting Control Module (LCM).
5. Select Module Configuration.
6. Select Customer Preference Item.
7. Select Dark Car.
8. Select Enable or Disable.
9. Select Done.

I love the blue connector, but I guess it was too good to be true forever.

What years of CVPI's does the
" blue connector" cover?

Let me ask this question. Does your door chime if you leave the keys in the door? If it does, then you have the dark mode enabled "properly". If it does not ding, then it may have been engaged "right".

If its dark mode, then you have to go back to a dealer for the PCM update.

If not, check behind the door panel. There is a single black wire that goes to the top of the door latch mechanism. If this wire is disconnected or cut, it will make the car think the door is always closed. No dome lights come on and the car doesnt chime. Reconnect this wire would restore all benefits.
