My blower speed is inoperative. It blows low, but nothing else. I ran the self-test and came up with code 052 --- A/C solar radiation sensor circuit short to ground.

I looked in my service manuals under blower inoperative and read-up on the diagnostic test/check. Before I break out the multi-meter and start checking resistance and voltages, is there anything I should check first? I mean is there sometimes a simple solution without going through all the diagnostics?

Thanks

Check the connection on the sunload sensor

About the blower - maybe the blower motor speed controller is faulty?

The sunload sensor is the piece on the passenger side of the dash?

And the blower speed controller is on the blower itself or near it?

The service manuals are a little vague.

Sunload sensor is on the black upper dash panel - it's just a small photocell

Blower motor speed controller is mounted in the HVAC plenum/box, on the engine bay side of firewall

Well, I went through the diagnostics in the service manual. Looks like I'm going to Ford tomorrow to get a new blower motor speed controller. Hopefully that is the problem and not the EATC control module.

What happened when the sensor went bad? I ran the self-check when I came home from work today. No codes. I think the interior was a little too warm when I ran it yesterday.

Does anyone know if you can replace bulbs in the EATC control module (in the dash)? I noticed this morning the backlight for the vent and floor buttons are out. Also, is the blower speed wheel back-lit? I noticed that was dark a few weeks ago, but I can't remember if it ever lit-up. Ford has a listing for an A/C panel light (under bulbs in their computer), but it doesn't specify manual or EATC controls. I really don't want to shell out $600 for a new module just to have everything lit-up but its driving me crazy not haveing everything lit!

the bulb in the EATC can be replaced with one from another parts car the bulb itself aren't sold by the dealer, last I checked. I was able ot go to the Junkyard and pulled the EATC from a wrecked car.

Well that's good and bad. Good because its cheaper, but bad because there are no decent junkyards around Pittsburgh!

I just bought one on Ebay. Its from a '97 Vic. Were the '97 Vics green or teal/blue back-lit?

The EATC can show codes? How do you go about doing this.

My blower motor speed controller went out on my 02 LSE as well - it felt like it worked on low only because the car was moving.

To be honest, the part number is extremely difficult to figure out in the Ford parts system - I have to be honest and rather than taking the chance on buying the wrong part, I let my mechanic fix that issue since it was not that expensive, and it beat buying the wrong part that was quite expensive.

Teal/blue ('cool blue') - 98+ are green

I think I know which one you bought - did it have the thumbnail pic on an angle, and say it was from a CVPI in the description?

Here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...58730&rd=1&rd=1

I E-mailed the guy and he said he thought it was green. He sold the car it came out of so he can't hook it up to check. If the lights are blue, can I still use the bulbs? I mean, are the bulbs colored or clear?
