Just wondering, did Ford use the new taller headrests in any other cars besides the Panthers? Are there other cars with headrests that would swap in Crown Vics?

Someone on here said he put Escape? headrests in his Vic, but they did not slide down smooth/all the way.

My 2000 CV has the rounded whiplash type. I am looking for a good deal on a 2003+ set, which were redesigned as a bit safer in rear end collisions, but the Insurance Highway Safety Institute still says they are worthless.

Makes you wonder what ford was thinking when they made those headrests (older models). When they are fully down, its as if they were designed to help you neck/head roll perfectly back on it and snap your neck in a rear end collision. Its like perfect for that.

They should also be called head restraints more often because they sure as hell don't help me rest my head. At least not without the possibility of wrecking.

To each his own. I am 6'4" and pulling them all the way up, barely supports my neck and comes nowhere near my head.

I'm the same way. I'm about to bite the bullet and dish out the $196ish at the dealer parts department for light gray 03+ cloth head rests. Unless I can find a 03+ CV LXS or GMQ LSE seats for a good price.

How are the headrests removed? Do you just yank 'em?

The IIHS has procedures for rating seat/head restraints: Link

Ford cars and trucks are rated here: Ford rear crash protection

BTW, the IIHS shows the CV as a fairly safe car, low theft, compared with most others: Injury, Collision, and Theft ratings. Check out the Dodge Intrepid stats. Better have Lo-jack.
