I have a 97 cvpi and lately its been hard to control when on the interstate when I get near a 18 wheeler it seems like my car shifts to the side...when driving I nearly shake my steering wheel and the car will damn near go straight could this be the steering gear box or maybe a loose shaft?

With that mileage, I would highly recommend you bring it to a reputable alignment shot for a complete front-end inspection

Could be a shaft. I have the same thing, and my shaft is very loose.

I'm in the same boat. Mine only has 114k on it and I can't tell if it is a shaft or the box. When I grab the lower shaft (under the hood) there is some play. But I don't know if that is in the lower shaft or the gearbox. Is there some way to tell?

Also has anyone bought one of the $89 steering boxes on ebay?
