Recall that the intention was to have the cowl scoop functional.

So ... Is it of any benefit
Got a new toy - digital infrared non-contact thermometer / temp-guage.
After an hour around-town cruise ( city driving ), some temperature readings ( fahrenheit ) .....
29.8 - outside air temperature. 36.4 - metal zip tube. 143.7 - bottom of heat shield for metal zip tube. 47.3 - throttle body adapter exterior. ** 87.8 - intake manifold below throttle body adapter. ** 150.2 - upper radiator hose exterior.
** With the engine cover on.
Set-up ...

Preliminary conclusion - Got a C(old) A(ir) I(ntake) system.

Too bad you don't have a ScanGauge, then you would know the exact intake air temp!
The cowl compliments the hood lines nicely, good choice!
Judging by the temp of it, that heat shield is very effective, nice work! Did you just use a piece of (18awg?) aluminum and bent it to a curve?

Yep ... However, no matter what the temperature of the incoming air is at the airbox, at least it's not getting significantly heated-up on its sojourn thru the intake system.

If you look up those kinds of filter/sheild combos on eBay you'll find that they have some that are conical filter completely surrounded by a shield. Air only enters through hole at end of shield... we could get the air hole on that pretty damn close to the stock location nowadays.... I can see a few guys on here coming up with some CAIs pretty soon.

Those air filters with shields on them do not flow well. The filters are VERY VERY cheap. I wouldn't even put one in my trunk let alone on the end of my intake.
I'm talking about the ones that totally surround the air filter, not what joe has used on his car.

I'm forgetting whether you have a low or high pressure area right there at the cowl, and there's SOME theory behind it, which I'm also forgetting at the moment. Of course, it's bad as hell, so even if it's not functional . . .
It'll probably keep underhood temps down to some degree too.
I almost impulse purchased one of those laser thermo-thingys after one of our earlier flame wars about CAI's (or the lack of a real one).
Datalogged air-charge temp runs in conjunction with all the measurements you listed would be cool

Trust me the cowl scoop sucks
Wanted to know ( forsure ) myself, so right after I got the hood installed, paper streamers were taped to hang over the opening.
At idle and in park, the streamers gently fluttered out from the screen in the opening. Meaning: Under-hood pressure > atmosphere. It blows
While driving, the streamers are pegged and mashed against the screen ( and Yes, the amount of mash while not quantitatively analyzed, was greater in proportion to increased MPH ). It sucks. *Actually it means that there's a high pressure area at the windshield / cowl opening | the engine bay is a low pressure area | ?????
As a BTW ... When the engine is turned-off, even on warm days you can watch ( and feel ) the heat waves coming outa the scoop opening.

While it's not a hood scoop ... ram air set-up .... Read This <<<<< -click-
Any ram air hood set-up would necessitate quite a bit of hacking and/or fabricating to be operational in a Panther. *Not to say it couldn't be done though.

Big Bad Joe - if you want to draw air into the hood area - but not get lots of water, bugs, bees, errant birds, pedestrians, etc. coming in with it, then the best way is almost always to place an opening just in front of the windshield. On almost every car this is a high-pressure area - while on most cars the front 1/2 of the hood is a low-pressure area meaning that an opening there will pull air out of the engine compartment.
Just look at where your heater draws its air from.
The fact that the opening faces backwards does not affect this in the least - it simply keeps out the aforementioned undesirable items.
Oh - and someone needs to show this to Sal for Mad Max!

Is that window tint film on the headlamps??
Yes ... Static cling ( easy to remove / install ). *Still need to do the headlight black-out.

I also love the Silicone hose upgrade! Nice, valvecovers too.
Thanks! *Part of black and blue under-hood color scheme

Damn. Joe what's your 1/4 mile time?
It's been a while ( 2 years ) since I've TandT'ed ( Test and Tuned ) at the strip ... 15.1; that was before the 3.55 and TracLok install ( 3.27 and open ) and bunch of other mod's since ( i.e. larger throttle body and spacers ).

Does the hood make any difference?
Will probably find out next year sometime AFTER possibly installing some re-worked exhaust manifolds ( extrude-hone + ceramic coat ) and then a dyno' tune session ( probably at Alternative Automotive ) to adjust ( and improve ) the existing dyno' tune.

I wonder if the 5.4 whipple rig would fit!
It'd fit and give ya a cool charge as well.
