My 2004 cv is reading the code P0455 which is Evap Emission Control System Leak Detected (Gross Leak/No Flow). I was wondering if anyone could help me with some ideas for some fixes to try or whether i should just take it to a mechanic. thanks for any input

- Gas Cap
- EVAP Filter Under Trunk
- EVAP Purge Valve
- EVAP System Hoses

Gas cap is the most likely cause. First check to make sure it's tight, then after that, I suggest just replacing the cap to be safe. If a visual inspection shows no broken hoses, and nothing else obvious, take it in and have the system fogged.

It caught you filling up without shutting off the engine.
$500.00 or 30 days.

mine threw the code a couple weeks ago, i cleared it and rotated the gas cap 180*, just threw a code again friday, i haven't checked/cleared it yet. the O ring on my cap looked to have a permanent indentation set into it, i think it's time for a new cap on mine for sure anyway.

does anyone think the instant fill cap is asking for more trouble? standard cap is 10832, instant fill is 41002

I purchased my problem with the car. The previous owner bought a Ford locking gas cap and replaced one of the lines under the hood, so he was aware of the issue. I was getting two codes for a while, the large leak and small leak codes. I found the small leak under the hood and replaced the line. That fixed the small leak. Iíve also blown air though the lines and thereís no blockage (no flow) and replaced the solenoid on the charcoal canister. The only thing I can think of to try next is a possible valve from the vacuum system (wherever that may be) and after that, change whatever sensor is detecting the problem (IOW, the system is good but the sensor is bad).

EDIT: that code is for a gross leak or a no-flow condition. My theory is that since I cannot find a gaping hole or disconnected/broken line, itís not a gross leak. That leaves a no-flow condition, which would indicate to me either a blockage or a valve not opening. Or the sensor is falsely reporting.

i'd lean towards a valve not opening first, do you top off the tank to the tippy top like i do? could it be a "liquid-where-there-should-be-vapor" thing going on?
