Darrin can hook you up. He makes it so the tranny does not do the dreaded 4->2 down shift. First it goes to 3rd for a brief split second, then goes to second gear. 4->2 is very bad. Mine was banging, and at 100K the front seal was leaking etc. Mine didn't fail but it sure was getting close. If you know you are going to to romping a bit. Hit O/D cancel to keep it out of 4th.

Darrins work is just plain awesome. I got my Stage II unit from him for $1500.00 (not sure if prices have gone up) and is good for 500HP. I'd recommend you get one, if you don't get laid off etc.

(that sucks BTW)

Just to introduce myself...name is Ron. Our company was hired by Tork Tech to prototype, install, tune & test the new kit. The first production units are running around on a couple of GT's and performing very well. Although TTI is a new company, the kit was engineered by Magnum Powers, who as you know has been in the Lightning & Supercoupe performance business (superchargers)for many years. With our input and after a year of testing the product was finally released. It also went through extensive testing at JMS Chip in Mississippi.
Part of our job was to see what a stock 4.6L could handle in the way of internals. Non-inter cooled with a $350.00 water methanol kit, it hit 437 rwhp/420 ft/lbs before the rods let go.
We are currently testing the kit on the same car, but now have all forged internals. The really neat part of this kit is the torque. From 1900 to 5900 rpm, it made average torque of 368 ft/lbs. At 2000 RPM it was already at 356 ft/lbs. JMS describes it as having the torque curve of a twin screw and the HP curve of a centrifugal. The HP curve is a 45 degree angle, straight up.

If interested, I have lots of data on the ACT, how it was tested etc.

Thanks.

I would like to get my hands on one of these units just to see how fitment would be on a Crown Vic considering i have a 98, 2000, and a 2005.

I also have a 93wPI eng. and an 01 that is available for R&D purposes if you need it. Hint, Hint, Wink, Wink

If you were only in the Portland, OR area...

Torque gets you of the line. Torque breaks things - I'm on my 3rd transmission and only have 18,XXX miles on the entire car. I love my AED, but things keep breaking. I don't believe the results of my dyno run ( http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/601515/fullsize/dyno-dv.wmv ). When I come off the line with my car, versus a P71, I'm a full car length away before I hit second. I love the rush, but I'm tired of breaking transmissions. Even Darrin at BC-Automotive says he (chime in if I misunderstood you Darrin)can't build a tranny that will hold up to the dreaded 4-2 down shift. The 9psi pulley, when installed, was just plain wicked. I could bark the tires going into 3rd. I need to build the bottom end and figure out how to make my tranny hold up - might be a bad tune or I just had a bad tranny to start with.

I really like my car, but I'm thinking about either selling the whole thing as is or maybe just remove the AED and put it back to stock - both choices make me sad. Things at work are NOT going good as we just laid off 500 people and are planning to lay off another 800 by the end of February. No extra money to do the Vic properly.

AED IS OUT OF BUSINESS, so no help from them. I did get an email from Scott Graves at AED and he says the buyer looks like he's backing out of the deal. He also promised to send me a less agressive transmission tune, but I've yet to receive it. He said I hae the same transmission tune recommended by Jerry, so it should be fine, but it's not.

Enough of the ranting - I hope everyone who wants to supercharge their car gets to - you WILL BE HAPPY!

I'm nearly positive i'm making more torque down low than you are. My transmission is just fine with over 30K on it of hard miles.

in an unmodified panther panther it is bad to do the 4-2 downshift. like another has said, if you plan on mashing the gas-lock out o/d.

this will make your tranny last a lot longer.

I know, but I don't always think about it. Ford should build a better transmission. With ALL the other vehicles I've owned, this is the ONLY one I've killed a tranny in. Our transmissions or POS - A 4-2 down shift should not hurt anything except maybe U-joints.

Many Marauder guys are running Trilogy SC's without your tranny woes. +2 on the advice to get Darrin to build you one. I also recommend that you add a larger tranny fluid cooler.

I'd like to see this 'extended scoop' for the Mustang hood. I may need to get one or two of those, (those probably sooner than the supercharger unfortunately)

David,

I felt that your orginal trans had a bad case (out of spec.) that was cast wrong from day one. When you told me how your trans failed, I immediately told you of an 05 P71 that had the same failure that we had in the Lincoln Mercury shop that came back three times with the same failure. You must remember that P71's run 10-16 hours a day and are driven under severe conditions all the time. (A weak part will show up within a month on a P71, where it would take a civilian car 9-12 months to fail. Before Ford finally fixed the intake problem with the metal crossover, I saw some P71's crack 3 intakes a year). The problem wasn't found until a Ford engineer recommend that they change the case. I was shocked when they rebuilt your trans and didn't change the case and it came back in a short period of time. The early 04 P71's were blowing the OD band because of the tune they initially came with. The problem wasn't the amount of torque, but in the tune (which Ford fixed) which caused the trans to shift from OD to 2 in wide open throttle. Since they changed your trans now, I feel your troubles are over.
Dave, I understand the work issue and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Realistically these transmissions can handle pretty much as much torque you can throw at them from an N/A and even moderate boost SC application. I think it's far more likely the case itself was the problem, and not the internals failing. Or computer tuning issues causing early down shifts at high RPMs. But theres no way the 'torque' of your engine caused the failure, Automatic transmissions are much stronger than the engine they are behind. (This does not include anything made by the Chrysler corporation lol)

$hit, that explains my car. When I'm in 4th and I floor it the RPM's wind wayyy up and then the car SLAMS into second. I knew something had to be going on there. From now on I'll be hitting O/D cancel if I know I'll be needing 2nd. With 172,000 miles on what might be the original transmission, I felt so bad for going 4-2!

Since I installed my J-mod my marquis has NEVER done a 4-2 downshift. It always goes 4-3-2 and bat-otta-hell. I dont think I have ever witnessed a 4-2 downshift ever in panther. 117K on original transmission. Automatic transmissions are the first thing to fail on ANY car I have ever owned....except this one!

I haven't done any 4-2s that I can recall, and I usually do a 4-3-2 by modulating the throttle. Clicking off OD is sometimes hard to do especially when I am wearing thick winter gloves.
