I am in the market for a new paintjob and was wondering what everyone thinks is a reasonable price?

Oh look, they sell worms in cans! ;\)
You can get a Maaco paint job on sale with a coupon etc. for about $200 that will be shiny but usually will start chipping soon thereafter. You can also spend $5000 for a factory-like paint job. There's a well known article on the web about painting your car with Rustoleum and rollers, and it supposedly comes out ok if you spend a zillion hours sanding between the many coats.
Answer this question for yourself first: Why do you want to paint your car? What result do you want? Also, I'm pretty sure new paint doesn't add THAT much to the value of the car. And after a year or more I'll bet it adds nothing.

I got a "very" nice paint job on my Miata. No body work, just paint work. It cost $1000. The Miata is at least 1/2 the size of a Vic so $2k sounds reasonable to me.

I got a decent paint job for $1200 and that included putting new fenders on that i spupplied so fenders werent included in that cost, and to fill 3 holes, it was also on a kind of wholesale job to show my boss what kind of work they did. Paint is decent, but im not happy at all with the body work they did, looked good for a year and then i started having problems with the areas where they filled the holes and fixed a dogleg. So look anywhere from $2000-3000 for a pretty nice job.

I paid $550.00 for a Maaco job on my 65 Dodge Polara. Most everyone at the car shows thought it was original.

I will admit the quality of the finish probably matched the era of 1965. Overall, I was very pleased with it and it never showed signs of chipping or fading out.

I am having the outside of my car done (as opposed to the door jambs, under hood, etc), 4 holes filled, a small amount of rust taken care of, and a fender aligned for $2,502.

Across the street...they wanted $6K-$7K.

SHOP AROUND! It costs nothing to get an estimate.

It all depends on what you want, and what your expectations are. I have a friend who has $2000 into only supplies and he has done all the work himself. The $2000 includes, paint, primer, and filler only. He uses all the other supplies at the shop for free.

Painted entirely with Rustoleum and rollers, inside and out. It is three coats and yes you have to wet sand between coats. It does take allot of time as this took me about 2 months to paint inside and out.

On my 2004, I just painted the hood black (The trunk I bought a used black one), it is not a prefect match but works for me as it was less then $10 to paint. I was quoted $1000 to paint the whole car black, I may do that in a few months.

I think price varies widely by region...to say one price in the sticks is not going to be the same price in a more metropolitan area. I paid a friend of mine who paints on the side $1500 including materials and got a really nice paint job very close to showroom new. But if I were say in Philadelphia metro area $1500 would probably look like crap! I think you need to be sure and do your homework in a more regional sense to get a feel for what a reasonable price/quality comparison would be.

So people don't try to dig up information about you. Like who the car is registered to, and what address, drivers license numbers and such.

Definitly shop around quotes are free! If you know somebody that works there you could get discount.

My uncle just got his car painted 1984 Olds Delta 88 (same size of panther) for $3800 and it looks like it rolled out of the showroom.

Nice job on the truck!

i have a solution to those high prices... paint it yourself. read some articles and buy a book or two... buy a pannel from the junkyard to practice on, rent a gun and compressor and voila. thats it in a nutshell... if i were to crack open that nutshell you would be reading about 20 pages of all the proper things to do to prep and paint . about 3 pages if you want to do it like they do on ghetto cars
