First off, what year Vic are we talking - Box or Aero/Whale?

On my '89 BxVic 351W-VV, I went with BBK shorty headers, 2-1/4" Mustang H-pipe with hi-flow cats, custom bent 2-1/4" midpipes, true 2-1/4" core DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers (they even use the stock hangers), and custom bent 2-1/4" tailpipes ending with a factory-type angled turndown...

Sounded nice and deep even with the 351, and I can't wait to hear it with the new 393 stroker motor!

If I did it again, I would have gone 2-1/2" back to the mufflers, and 2-1/4" tails...

I presumed 4.6/modular, obviously none of what I wrote applies to a proper small block, which can indeed be made to sound quite nice!

I love the sound of my vic with 40 series flow masters. I also have turn downs at the mufflers. the mufflers are 2 1/2" inlet and outlet.

I don't get any raspy sound and the drone is not really that bad. There is some if the car shifts into OD at like 35-40MPH but I tend to just lock OD out unless I am going above 45.

I get compliments all the time on my exhaust sound and am always getting asked questions about it.

I'm hearing good things on the cherry bomb vortex mufflers. borla is too expensive and Im doubting the 25hp difference. unless the swap was from a 3 chamber rv muffler to a borla xr1. I have seen the reverse, my buddys current mod saleen went from borlas to flows. When it gets finished we will dyno and see whats going on, maybe slip on the old borlas. Problem is everyone has "preferences".

Ditto. Quite the rage 'round here with foug bangers and short exhausts. I imagine the principle will also work on real full bodied cars but haven't seen nor heard one yet.

I think i wish i had. I paid 400 to the muffler shop for 2 40s and larger 2 1/4 pipes with h pipe. Want to change to x pipe when i install headers.

Just slap a set of Dynomax Super Turbos on and call it a day. With my stock rear resonators still in place, the car's got a smooth, deep idle. Under throttle it is not coarse, blatty or raspy at all and it burbles richly. No drone whatsoever.

I currently have flow masters, as ive had them since I first got my car, but i sure plan to get rid of them shortly, although it sounds good. Im going to try dynomax

http://www.dynomax.com/products/ultrafloweld.html

here is a vid a while back of how my car sounds.

Thound quality kinda sucks on this one but this is what I want but with a little less rasp and just a LITTLE more subtle. What is the sound difference if I just put dumps before the axle vs. some MM style tips where the original tips were?

okay guys yall are talking about all these different types of mufflers... I would find out if there fully stainless steel or has a good coating on them that will last you.. those cherrybomb ones ten to rust quite fast and those spin tech mufflers sound like it has a freaking exhaust leak lol. Oh and about headers. yes it improves the sound but not much at all really unless you get long tubes. the only thing headers do really for the sound is that if you want to hear it more in the engine comparment.

I feel my setup is very good, and I'd recommend it to others.
It's quiet driving and at idle, zero drone. Link in sig

The extra length in our exhaust systems enhances the raspiness. When I had flowmaster 40s with an x pipe and it was dumped... well that was just grand! But I'd say stick to some quieter mufflers with the X if you want to avoid raspiness.
