I tried a search for NGK, and got nothing back. Is there anything to be gained by using NGK iridiums instead of Autolite Double Plats? If so, could someone please give me a part number for the standard heat range, and a good source? Also, can you set the gap on NGKs, and, if so, is the gap still .044?

Thanks,

VMM

Both are excellent, I use the double plats with great success.

Ummmm, anything to be gained by using NGK iridiums?
NO !!
Except maybe a lighter wallet !!
This is one of those "can 'o worms" qustions on this site, bro.
But for my money, and I have a kid in college, it's either Motorcraft or Autolite in any FoMoCo product.

"Is there anything to be gained by using NGK iridiums instead of Autolite Double Plats?"

I just changed the plugs on my 03 Windstar van. Last changed fall of 07. I have put on a little over 100K on the van since last fall.

I used autolite iridium extreme performance plugs on the firewall side because it is a major operation to get to the plugs on the inside.

I used autolite double platinums on the radiator side.

Long story short--iridium plugs showed no visible or measurable sign of wear. Double platinums were virtually missing the center electrode.

The van now has new iridiums all the way around.

I have never seen a panther totally eat the center electrode but non the less on a side to side comparison the iridium was the way to go on the windstar.

BTW even with the center electrode worn right down there was no misfire registered. I will tell you later if there is a big improvement in fuel economy.

My knuckles look like they went 5 rounds in the cage.

Iridiums will last longer, but with our modulars, you don't "set it and forget it". You should religiously check your spark plug torque anyways at least every 30k.

So what if you only get 60k optimal use out of double plats. Technically if you gap to the lower number, at 100k you should be right at the highest number which will still be in spec.
