Lately (last couple of days or so), I noticed that when I turn the defrost on, the AM/FM radio turns to static. What is causing this? I would like to have some idea before I go to Ford for the warranty work.

I just noticed the other day that mine does that too. Is your antenna built into the rear window as well? I'm just guessing the power to the antenna is getting feedback from the power to the defrost bar things-- I don't know for sure though

Yes, the antenna is built into the rear window.

My issue just started recently happening though. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem with mine. I've been told that it's caused by a broken "element" wire on the glass for the defroster.

Most likely a break in your defroster grid - or just a loose connection on the isolator

What does the isolator look like?

I checked the grid and could not find any breaks. However, Ford did "fix" some grids this past winter since part of the rear window was not defrosting. They did not use the Ford kit but used something like they bought it at AutoZone or something but it was to fix the defrost grids.

Seams like a bad idea to make something that could have a problem so easily. Defroster grids are frequently broken. Ford building the antenna into the rear window glass with the defroster was a bad idea IMO.

Bad idea? My '99, and now my '03 have it, and it never failed. The only reason why i'd mess up is because something broke on it.

GhostRider, your car was "buffed out" (I.E. major repairs done), right? It could have something to do with it.

Get full glass coverage, and bust your back windshield, and have them replace it, or if you're under the factory bumper to bumper, just have Ford mess with it. They might just give you a new rear windshield.

BTW, bjorkmae, happy B-Day.

The wrong type of window tint can cause this too.

Otherwise, it's just electrical demons.

My '02 did this also. And I believe we tracked it down to the type of window tint that was used and the fact that one of the grids had a break in it. Luckily, my '05 doesn't have the problem since the antenna is on the rear quarter.

I have no window tint. Also, I looked for the isolator and its not where it was on my 97 CVPI. In fact, its not there at all. Did they change its location for the 06?

Ok so I went to the dealership and this is how it turned out for me:

In regards to the AM/FM radio, they said they wont fix it at least not under warranty. The Service Manager states that the grids are not under warranty and since the girds were previously damaged, they wont touch it. However, they were the ones who fixed the broken grids and he hinted that the repair may be the cause of the problem. He said the only alternative would be to replace the entire rear window. I will call Ford tomorrow to see what they say on the issue.

I also had them check a weird noise under my seat. They advise the frame has become unbolted from the body and that its bent and until I get it straightened, it can not be fixed. This pisses me off because when I got the car they told me the frame had sub-frame damage but nothing serious and no other frame damage and assured me it was straight but to get it checked any way. Furthermore, the guy I bought it from (same guy that owns Asia Motors) wrote on the ebay auction that it did not have frame damage.

If I didnt love my Vic so much id junk it but it is repairable.

You can two things.

1) Replace the rear window.

2) Listen to a CD when you have your rear defroster on.
