Would a 1997 pcm not work in a 1995?

I put a 97 p71 pcm in my car and it wouldn't start. I put my 95 pcm back in and the car still wouldn't start. Then, after disconnecting the battery and messing with the pcm and harness, I started. I shut the car off and started it up 3 more times to be sure. I then tried the 97 pcm again and it wouldn't start the car. Once again, I put the 95 pcm back in and the car didn't start. I'm done for tonight, it's getting cold. I'll be back on it tomorrow morning.

Also, does the pcm harness "snap" into the pcm? Mine just slides into the pcm. It seemed like it locked into place when I did get the car to start with the 95 pcm that one time. It didn't do that on all the other attempts.

Any help is appreciated.

No, a '97 PCM will not work in a '95 car.

The 104 pin connector is retained by a 10mm bolt, it does NOT "snap in" to place.

Okay, thanks. I have no idea why my original pcm didn't start the car. I will look into that in the morning.

97 PCM can't be used.

As for the '95 no longer working, probably a connection issue.

Check for bent pins.

I went to the car this morning and it started right up. It seemed like the 97 pcm caused a relay or something to shut down. When I went back to the original pcm right after, it wouldn't start. After letting the car sit for some time, it started.

I will get the xcal one of these days. I have a Marauder airbox and maf collecting dust. I'm going to make an intake tube for it because I really dislike the 95 air tube.

it has to be the same year pcm. I did the swap on my car from a 2000 lx to a 1999 p71 and it worked great.
