Is it possible to pull the motor and tranny out the top of our cars?

Or do you drop the tranny and pull the motor seperate..?

Got PI heads and have to put in my new tranny, just thought I'd ask if that would be easier, pull it out at once. I DO know you don't have to pull the motor to swap the heads.

Yep:

Saves time and you don't have to re-align the engine and transmission. I've even heard you can do it without taking the hood off.

Not to mention you will need to remove the fan, and the radiator. Do remove the radiator, it will give you more room to pull the engine, and doing so will save your radiator from being crushed.
I did it the other way, I just secured the tranny, and pulled the engine, even then I still needed more room, so I had to remove the radiator and the fan, it wasn't hard. Putting the engine back was hell, It was very difficult to connect the engine back to the tranny.

it also helps to jack the back of the car up when doin it that way, if you cant get enough clearance.
