ok, im doing the PI intake and PI cam swap on my car soon. I got the cams, the intake (as soon as someone get his A$$ home!!! LOL), PI intake gaskets,PI coolant tube, PI coolant nipple.... what else?? be as specific as you want. also there is a tool (i was told) that i need to get so i can install the cams without taking off my timing chain cover??? i got cash to buy some things so this is the time for me to aquire the goodies i will need. i wont be doing the swap for like a month.... but i got the main stuff now its just time for the little things... post away :):):) thanks guys :):)

I think you may need the new-style alternator bracket.

That list looks right to me. You can re-use your stock Alt Bracket but you will need to drill two new holes in it. Very easy to do.
I beleive you can get the tool online somewhere I just can't recall where.

yea the Alt bracket i already drilled when i had to replace my leaking orginal intake with the alum crossover one. i wish i had the $$$ then to do the PI stuff, but u know how it is when money is tight. what im looking for is this tool i was told about. it makes it possible so i can change the cams without removing the timing chain cover.

Ford (Rotunda) has a couple versions of the timing chain holding tool, Anderson Ford made/makes one, and I have seen others on eBay. I personally have the old and new Rotunda ones, I haven't done the cam swap yet, I am too lazy and I never seem to find the time.

Might as well get a thermostat and put that in at the same time.
I would pull the cover, I am a perfectionist and need to know those timing marks are lined up. Besides, you can check out the condition of your guides and the tensioners. Only an extra hour.
I won't even go into degreeing cams, but the last PI cams I installed one side was 4 Deg. retarded from the other one. More power and efficiency to be had degreeing.

thats a pretty accurate list. you will need a new o ring for your water pump too. you need different cam gear bolts and washers for the PI cams. they are different from PI to nPI. i got them directly from ford for a few bucks each. be careful when removing the cam gears from the cam not to lose the washer or you will nullify the whole point of not ripping the cover off because the washer WILL fall down. dont forget the rtv as well, and valve cover gaskets if you are picky. you can get away with reusing them, but i dont like to.
i just did the swap two weeks ago. i bought the anderson tool (google it) and didnt even touch it. i used a c clamp and a pair of vise grips to hold everything in place. it worked very well. i recommend having a second person present to help, i did it on my own and it was a little bit of a pain. you will also want some engine assembly lube to use when putting the cams in.

like i said, i just did this a few weeks ago on my 96. it took me about 4 hours all told start to finish. itll prob take most people a little longer but its not that terrible of a job. good luck and enjoy!!

you will hate to hear this but honestly if you are going to do a cam swap on your 98 with 100k+ Mi then it would probably be a good idea to go ahead and remove the timing cover and replace your guides and tensioners as well as chains. That is what I did and I am glad I did cause one of my chains was starting to eat through a guide.

i thought if i used PI intake gaskets i didn't have to use RTV on the gaskets???
also how do i tell if my cams are PI cams?? all i see is patient numbers on the cams....

A dab of RTV on the pass front and drivers rear in between the coolant and intake port. Just a dab on the head, then carefully lay the gasket on top. You will see where if you trial fit the gasket first.
Post the numbers, or enter PI cams and the # on Google.
