I've got a '00 CVPI that I'm thinking about haul some ass with.

Whats the hot setup hitch for hauling a light weight 4x8" trailer (class 2 is enough)? I see that some of these hitches list "exhaust modifications". Whats the deal with that? Anyone have pics of a hitched vic? Anyone have install tips?

Thanks!

I installed a class III hitch in my 2001 p71. The only "modifying I had to do was drill two holes in the frame... there were no holes fir the 2 rear bolts. Other than that, not much to it. I use mine to haul a 16x8 single axle trailer loaded with lawn service equipment:

A class II would work fine for your trailer. It would probably work fine for mine too, but I got the hitch used for a good price and already had a couple of drawbars around, so I went with the class III

did you use one of those T connectors for the light harness? Easy install? What does the hitch require for install? It bolts to the rear frame, uses two existing holes, and you have to drill like two more holes or something? Sounds pretty simple...

Thanks!

I actually just found a dude selling a CV class 1 trailer for $35 on CL... says 200lbs tounge and 2000lbs gross. This trailer is only 250lbs, 1000lbs max load. Think that would cut the mustard?

carparts.com actually had a brand new class 2 hidden hitch on sale for 107 shipped. I opted for that... new hitch, comes with all the hardware, instructions, tounge, etc... less fuss and not that much more.

hitch is installed... went pretty smooth. Drilled 4 1/2" holes, used the bolt leader to get them through the frame... tightened the [censored] out of them. The tounge that came with the hitch looks like it'll work really good upright. I got the ball on there... everything is ready to rock!

Nice. Next you might wanna pick up a set of these. They will help with sag and load leveling.

So you didn't have to make any exhaust modifications with the hidden hitch class two even though you have dual exhaust? I'm looking for a hitch, but don't want to have to modify the exhaust.

When installing the wiring harness. It seems like some people dont just run wire with an inline fuse right to the batt. Is there a reason for that?

Thanks
Jake

Holy grave dig, Batman!

Yes there is a reason for that, it is because the load is too much for the vehicle's LCM (lighting control module) so the best bet is to go with a 'modulite' to keep the LCM from burning up. Some people will say they've tapped into the wiring directly but this is not safe on our cars.
