When I get in my car in the mornings and start it I hear a loud humming noise. I have heard this noise on and off for years but nothing ever consistant. Now this happens everytime I start the car in the mornings. I dont hear it when I get out of work that I can recall. When it happens I usually just hit the gas and a quick tap of the pedal and its gone.
This morning I decided to try some investigation and popped the hood to track it down and it seems to be comming from the air box. I put my hand on the box and it was vibrating consistanly with the hum(it may not be comming from there) Has anyone ever had this problem or suggestions on what to check?

This sounds very familiar, but I've never tried to track it down. It's very interesting that mine is also a 2000 MY, but a CVPI instead (not that it really makes a difference between a MGM and CVPI).

Please post a follow up if/when you figure out the source.

When my IAC was dying, it made that tuba noise. It was very loud coming down the air intake tubes. When I took off the tube for the IAC from the main air intake tube, the sound came directly out of that smaller tube. After I replaced the IAC, the noise went away.

Yup the Idle Air Control valve is sticking. Replacing the IAC is a sure fix.

Do you have the air ride on the rear axle?

If so then the compressor will kick in to level the car after you
put your weight in it.

The compressor sits right under the air box.

From my experience the humming noise was common on the '92 thru '95 or '96 I think. The later ones just seem to let the engine die at idle.

So you you're right on both ways \:D

a used IAC?

wow... that's like used air in the tires... see how long that one lasts...

here is a tip... when it starts making noise and stalling out get a replacement... the replacement IAC on my 2000 lasted longer than the original

yea obviously thats the correct way to do it.

mine just makes that loud humming noise like once every like 2 months and i just turn the car off and restart and it wont do it again for like a few months.

so im not overly concern with mine
