I'm planning on replacing the front wheel bearings on my 97 PI. I've replaced bearings on other cars, but this looks like a totally different process from what I'm used to.

Anyone have any tips, suggestions, or lessons learned that they can share?

Section 04-01: Suspension and Wheel Hubs, Front 1997 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Procedure revision date: 05/16/2000

Raise vehicle on hoist.

Remove wheel and tire assembly.

Remove front hub cap grease seal (1N135) from wheel hub (1104) and discard.

Remove two disc brake caliper bolts that mount disc brake caliper (2B120) assembly to spindle and discard.

CAUTION: Do not let disc brake caliper hang by the front brake hose (2078). Damage to front brake hose may result.

Remove disc brake caliper assembly and suspend with wire.

Remove front disc brake rotor (1125). If factory push-on nuts are installed, remove clips first.

Remove front axle wheel hub retainer (3B477) and discard.

Remove wheel hub assembly. If assembly cannot be removed by hand, use Front Hub Remover/Replacer T81P-1104-C.

Install wheel hub.

Install new front axle wheel hub retainer and tighten to 255-345 Nm (189-254 lb-ft).

Install front disc brake rotor and push-on nuts.

Install new front hub cap grease seal. Use appropriate tool so as not to damage or distort front disc brake rotor.

Position disc brake caliper to front disc brake rotor and front wheel spindle (3105).

Install new disc brake caliper mounting bolts. Tighten to 200 Nm (147 lb-ft).

Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten lug nuts (1012) to 115-142 Nm (85-104 lb-ft).

Lower vehicle.
