on the sun visor 2002 Town car.

Both a quick "search" and a check of "body of knowledge" revealed anyone else ever asking, What is the source of power for this gadget? I can't find any wires and suspect it is a battery, but the owners manual says nothing about this, where to find it, access and replacement directions. Anybody have any information?

If this a small clip on type or the Homelink that is in the area of the compass, oil change reminder & interior lights? My 04 LTC has the Homelink system but it does not work on the garage door of the house we just bought so I have to use the opener that came with the house, which is the type of a clip you dscribed.

I believe you have to program the homelink to your opener.

It's powered by the LG/Or vanity light circuit for the visors & map lights.

Thanks Steve, that sounds like no separate battery. Decreasing range and need for longer button push must be something else. I have never found any wires going to the visors, must run inside the mounting bracket elbow.

Sigh... that is the exact color I'm looking for to upgrade my car with that... heh... oh well.

I have a bunch of those units... just not the correct color.

EDIT: Oh damnit.. I'm such a fool... I just bought a brand new one on eBay for $100 bucks. Right color, etc...

stupid stupid... I've blown way too much money this month on dumb crap...

For what it's worth, I also did a parts lookup and apparently they ALSO sell one for the PASSENGER SIDE?! The one for the passenger side is dirt cheap from the dealer... $100 bucks. No one probably wants it. If you want it for the drivers side, it's $400 bucks.

I suppose I could have gotten the one built into the mirror, but I already have the compass there.

I tried for 2 days to program my garage door opener to the home link system in my 04 LTC. The door opener is an older model made by Sears, (this home was built in the early 90's). I get the "training" response, then the "trained" & still nothing. I have a small clip-on on the visor which works fine (it has a 2 block range) so if the opener stops working for any reason I'll put a new system in. BTW the last time I had a garaghe for my vehicle was the year after I graduated from high school, & that was also when Amaco high test sold for .25 a gallon!

You can see them in the 1st pic in that album.

Dimming compass homelink mirrors exist, but they're not cheap, even from the JY.

The one I installed in my headliner doesn't work, either - I think its antenna is too close to the car's roof, and not angled correctly to shoot out the windshield.
