Hi,

2000 Crown Vic P71 155,000 miles 250,000 km

Not garaged.

The dome light will not go off. It will stay on for hours. I've removed the bulb. An Internet search for a solution dead-ended.

I cannot find anything resembling a door switch. I've sprayed WD-40 into the latch areas.

Also, my daytime running lights have stopped working. (No great loss.)

Where do I start? LCM? Trying to clean the invisible door switches or sensors again?

New car?

Any useful help will be appreciated.

Regardless of the door switches, the LCM should turn off the Demand Lighting circuit after ~15 min with the key OFF.

Thought ... Check that the dimmer control for your dash lights isn't turned-on. *Cranking it full-on, turns-on the dome light.

Does that defeat the timer? I didn't think so.

I'm with you \:\) but he has a P71 so could it be the ticket light? I don't know much about the P71s.

I'm stunned that this appears to be all I can find on the dome light timer?! On my '06 P71 it would stay on for pretty much exact 30 min. And where are the door switches? What is the timer setup as it is supposed to be? I've been guessing no such timer the way we use to know it from civil vehicles, i.e. because the cop always needs to be in full control of the light situation in the vehicle, and normally only the ticket light be used?

To original poster -- When you have key in ignition do you get the beep beep like the driver's door is open?? If so, I've had the same problem. It has been suggested that you remove the driver's door panel and unplug the connector on the latch assembly. This way you will still have the dome light with the other 3 doors, but not the driver's door.
Since you have a P71, you can also enable dark mode, but this eliminates the dome light on all 4 doors, this is what I did, but will probably go with the other option soon as my girlfriend doesn't like the "dark" car mode when I open her door for her.

The sensor that tell the LCM that a door is open are integrated into the door latch, that is why you don't see them. If you pull off the driver's door panel, you'll see a wire going to the latch. I say driver's door because 9 out of 10 times it is the culprit since it is used the most.

Ticket lights dont come on by itself or has a timer. The light is manually turned on and off
