I have a 2003 Crown Vic PI and recently tried a high speed run. The car is amazingly quick to 60 but once I hit 90 seemed to take forever just to get to 95 so I gave up. Are these cars geared for low end rather than high end.

My other car is a Audi Allroad with the twin turbo 2.7 v6 and I would say the Crown Vic is almost as fast down low but over 80 the Audi would walk it.

thx

your 03 has i would guess 3.27 gears and because of the long wheel base they wanted to keep the rpms low as to not have drive shaft vibration issues

if you want it to take less time to get up to speed swap in some 3.73's or higher and you will get to speed quicker and have less issues on the high end

my 96 with 3.27s pulls hard well past 100... it just keeps going.

I have a feeling he doesn't have 3.27's. Usually numerically lower gears do better at highway speeds and above.

idk but i know my 3.55's got no issue pulling past 90

and my 2.73's took for ever to do anything

he is also comparing this to a turbo audi which if the vic is comparable in speed to the audi then the audi has some issues of its own

The turbo Audi probably has 5 or more gears. 2-3 a high geared 4 speed auto is a buzzkill.

I bet you had OD on while trying this run? Try that high speed run again with OD off and get back to us \:\)

PS WOT 3-4 shifts are very bad for the trans as the OD band is small and weak.

Throw a MZT on the 03 with (93) Octane tune and performance shifts. Upgrade the TB and I can assure you. You will be able to reach speeds greater than 120 ALOT faster.
For the time being I would suggest a CAI first and foremost.

Maybe something is just wrong with the car. How else to explain a noticeable lack of thrust going from 90 to 95? Unless he's running 4.30s or something and hits the top of the curve at 90.

I don't think any of us hit a wall, so to speak, at 90.

greater than 120 alot faster? not really. anything in a whale vic over 120+ is gonna take time. my 05 i only had to about 120 but accel after that is a dog.

Ive had my 99 that has 3.55's in it up to about 125 seemed about all it will run.

Go back to the aero vic's now those had a top end! my 93 CVPI i pegged my 140 speedo in. (3.08 stock gears) that thing was a beast on highway

If the car shifts into OD it will take FORVER for it to get to top speed, thats why they say keep the OD off in persuit vehicles equiped with 3.27 gears, cars with the 3.55 gears they say to keep the od on during high speed persuits.
