So I'm here in Iraq and I open a email from home saying "I was driving your car and the tire came your front rim, I pull over and see rubber chucks in the road, what you want me to do?"

The car came with the brand new Ultra Grips when I bought it in '09, when I left this spring they had about 25k to 30k on em why would the tire just shred like that on a newly paved road going 35 mph? I'm concerned not only what if she was on the highway, but Ultra Grips are a high performance tire it shouldn't have done that...

Any one else have this problem? Thanks

^^^That...also it could've been punctured by something in the road, and when driven on super low on air it will come apart.

Hey...aren't Ultra-Grips snow tires?

low air pressure, then they were probably driven on flat to get them to disintegrate.

Sounds like it threw the tread (defective to begin with) and shredded.

Does not take much to shred a tire. I was recently cruising along 50 mph 4:00am and pssssss blubbablubba...Front right quickly lost all air. Stopped right away. I was about 500 feet past an intersection on a divided 4 lane and backed it up to the lights to get it off the road and into the service station on the corner. The tire was ripped to pieces by the time I got it parked. Slept in the car in my T-shirt, about 5 degrees out, unprepared and shivering, with flat spare. Lucky because only moments before had been cruising for 90 miles on twisty empty desolate road at 75mph.

Yes they are snow tires but they are useless in the snow, I use Blizzacks with a little weight in the back and I can climb the hill I live on with no problems, so instead of buying new tires i'm just gonna have em put the Blizzacks on for now... It's a good possibility that tire was low, I usually have to put air in about twice a month, specially after long drives and changing of temperature outside...

When i got my car ultra grips were on it.It seems the ct state police keep them on year around.Anybody who thinks they are useless in the snow try again. This winter here in jersey we got over 2ft of snow from one storm,i drove all over with my ultragrips and no weight in the trunk!
