My CVPI is almost here!!! Anyway, I had the guy FedEx the Bill of Sale & the title to me. I received it yesterday with some notes. The guy that sold me the Vic said, the fuel door release does not work from inside the car. He said, I have to open the fuel door from the trunk. Anyone ever have the fuel door release not work? If so, what could it be? The car has not arrived yet, just want to get a jump on things to fix when it does. Thanks!

I have never even seen a fuel door release on PIs. My 92 doesnt have one. My friends 98 doesnt have it and his old 99 didnt have it. Any I dont think his stepfather's 2000 has it. Strange. Unless it is new for 01

The remote electric fuel door release has been available since '92 up until it was decontented around '03 or so. However, it is only available on nicely equipped models (i.e. LXs), not base model, taxi, or PIs.

The fuel door is different and doesn't have the little finger opening like the base level fuel door.

My guess is that someone retrofitted at least just the fuel door and latch mechanism but didn't bother to actually run power to the release solenoid or mess with adding the release switch to the driver's door. That said, a simple locking gas cap would've been way easier to install.

my '93 has a fuel door release button, right next to the trunk release. Opening the fuel door from the outside is a PITA, involving openeing the trunk, and pulling on a special handle indide the trunk. After a while, it becomes annoying.

Yes, this is true. Most of our patrol cars also have the button.

My 01 P-73 also has the remote filler door release.

I would prefer a regular one IMHO

my boss has a 1996 CVPI with a remote fuel door. His car was a wrecked Ohio State Highway Patrol car. The school bought it, took it to the on-campus body shop and rebuilt and repainted the car to black from medium titanium. I wish I had the remote fuel door. He also has this switch in his trunk that when flipped up, there is a steady horn blast until you flip the switch down. I am assuming this isnt Ford factory but the schools creation.

My sister's '94 had the same problem. The swtich broke. I was able to pull the switch apart and reassemble it. If you ned to remove the door panel to get at the swtich, just take care when removing the door panel so you don't break clips and stuff.

Must be the panic button.. now only if they could get it on a remote...

Anyway My '03 has the switch as well, mounted in the door, it is a P71, which is why im guessing the trunk button was removed, and taken over to the dash.. however the wires for that button were still left in the door...
