My CV is at the dealership, they found that my ignition #'s 1 and 5 were bad. They offered to replace them for me for $636. I know I can find the ignition coils at Autozone for approx. $48/ each, does anyone know a better, less expensive place to get them, in case I want to get all 8.

The symptoms are, my car was stalling during driving and it appears to be jumping out of gear.

I am pretty sure the #5 cylinder is first one, closet to the radiator on the drivers side. Mine went out in #5 also. I got mine off ebay for $80.00. The only problem i had was the brass inserted threads in the manifold would spin out when i tired to remove some of my coils, so be careful of that.

Should be driver's side front=1, 5= two pistons back from that one on the same side.

That is correct.
See the old-school racer arrangement for pulling/checking/reading plugs (and keeping them in order) using a box/cardboard and a marker:

And if I were you I'd pay for the motorcraft cops. I wouldn't pay the dealership to install them, but I wouldn't buy the cheap cops. But that's just me.

Ford is the only mfr. who numbers cylinders sequentially within each bank. All others have an odd bank & an even bank. But ALL engines have cylinder #1 furthest from the bellhousing, regardless of anything else. Since most Ford V engines have the first rod on the crank going to the passenger side, that's where #1 is on most Ford Vs. But always look at the engine from the side to see which valve cover is further forward.

Many engines also have the cylinder numbers & firing order cast into the intake, but not so much on modern EFIs.

THAT IS NOT CORRECT (I didn't mean you, I meant someone above but I must have been sitting on the post too long)
#1 is on the PASSENGER SIDE (first)
#5 is on the DRIVER'S SIDE (first)
See the pic I posted

2002 police interceptor crown vic and I need to replace my plugs/coil pack. How do you replace the coil pack - do I need to remove the fuel rail? Is there a vid out there that shows how to properly remove/replace the coil packs?

no you do not remove the fuel rail

disconnect battery

unplug connector from harness and undo single small bolt.. (iirc its an 8mm?) but its small.. small socket is all you need.. undo it ....

pull the boot and coil out

vacuum the plug well with a shop vac.. you can use one with the right tube attachment or fashion one yourself.. just make sure it sucks hard... (Ok free post on that one)

then use a long socket to remove the plug.. have a telescoping magnet handy if help fetch sockets that might not come back lol or duct tape holding the socket on works

install new plugs... i always use a piece of vaccuum hose to reach down in and turn it by hand making sure not to strip threads... on a 2002 gap should be .054.. check them they are often not right when shipped

put dielectric grease around base of boot, press new boot on plug... make sure spring "clicks" in place... bolt coil on, snap connector on wiring harness... repeat 7 more times

crack beer beer1
