i use Royal purple 5W30 in 04 Lightning since 10K , but i'm not sure if i should use it on Vic with 90K, what do you guys think? i hear switching from DINO oil to SYN oil can cause leaks, not 100% sure, but if were to switch from Motorcraft 5W30 i would use Valvoline Syn and FL820s filter. Any input?

RP has more Zinc and Phosphorus that is vital for engine rods and bearing where "supposedly" M1 eliminated those for emissions purposes.

It isn't just Mobil 1 that has reduced levels of ZDDP, it is any engine oil that has the API "SM" certification. You are correct that it was due to emissions; the reduced levels of ZDDP are supposed to help extend the life of the catalyic converter.

One correction, the ZDDP provides "boundary layer" protection for parts that have direct contact, like a lifter foot sliding on the camshaft. A rod bearing normally has an oil wedge keeping the parts separated, a reduction in ZDDP levels would have little to no effect in that application.

My 99 CVPI smokes unless I use Motorcraft 5w20 semi-synthetic. I had kind of forgotten this, and got talked into a full synthetic oil change last time. Smokes again! I will be switching back to "Vicky's" favorite oil.

I have been pondering the meaning of oil for over a year now, and I have determined if the oil is API certified, use recommended weight, change it before the oil breaks down, and you use a good filter (not Fram), that it really does not matter what oil brand you use. However I will recommend folks to use semi synthetic, you can find good semi synthetic for about the same price of regular oil. About every 12,000 I may add some sea foam to crank case 24 hours before I change it. So far I have gotten 183,000 miles and I am trying to get get 300,000 miles, at least. Wish me good luck.

I use Valvoline Synpower 5w-20 and either a Purolator Pure 1 or a Wix filter.
Winter I go with a 3k Oil Change Interval(OCI)
Summer I run between 4-5k depending on whether I make a lot of longer trips vs shorter ones.

In milder climates like in the south a 3000 mile change is for suckers...

Used 5w20 Motorcraft semi-synthetic for quite a few oil changes. Then I went to 5w40 Rotella T6 full synthetic (was doing alot of towing but the oil is just too thick!) the latest oil change I went with Mobil 1 5w20 synthetic and it seems to be fine.

Just switched to 5w30 Valvoline Maxlife synthetic blend from 10w30 Valvoline Durablend synthetic blend I use in my other car. I always use a Ford oil filter on my Fords. They keep up with Technical Service Bulletins and seem to know what works best for their motors. Plus they are under $4 at Wallyworld!

I used Motorcraft 5w20 the last two oil changes until the other day. Meijer had Mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic on sale, so I bought that and used it w/ a Motorcraft FL820S. My car uses 1/2 a quart between oil changes (5,000mi, so pretty negligible) when running Motorcraft semi synthetic, and none on conventional, we'll see if it uses more on full synthetic. It dose seem to run better w/ the new oil, but thats likely because the old oil had 5k miles on it smile .

I use mobil-1 5w30 fully syn oil.

Although I am very tempted to make a switch over to AMSoil. Anyone here have any experience with that?

Ive heard only positive things about them on my previous Lexus forum I was on.

QS 5W30 full synthetic and a Motorcraft 820 filter IS A MUST , no use between changes

4 -5 k between changes

1998 4.6 CVPI 104000 on the clock

Clean reports from Blackstone

so i guess a good quality oil and MC Filter , your vic will be fine

Personally, I think AMSOIL is a waste of money. Unless you go with the crazy oil change recommendations they post on the website you can go. I prefer to stick with a good full synthetic with a decent oil change interval. I do like driving until the wheels fall off but after it gets to 175k or so there's typically too many things that have just seem too much wear and tear and it's time to buy a pretty new car again.(Why invest in making the car last to 350,000 miles using AMSOIL if everything else is going to start falling apart. There's a fine line of taking care of your car, and dumping in money to make the car see a day that you won't be around for anyway, assuming you sell the car for a reliable newer car. I sure as hell won't take a 250k mile car on a road trip across country.

However, Valvoline is releasing a 50% recycled product that I want to try when they release their Dura-Blend Nextgen variety.

The re-refining process they have appears to be pretty good(= to or greater than processing crude) and on bobistheoilguy.com it had a pretty good oil analysis.

Do your research!!
I have been doing some research on Amsoil, convinced by actual reports I bought five quarts and will be using it here shortly. Regardless of how many miles an engine will or will not go. Utilizing a good product pays off in the long run no matter if its oil or car parts. Most times but not all ways "You get what you pay for" However some things you will never know until you try it. Here are some links for Amsoil testing check them out....
