I was wondering --how long does a coil pack last. I recently replaced two failing ones in sucession in about two months time. My crown vic is a 2000 with 126000 miles. Maybe I should go ahead and replace the other six even though they are fine at the present time. Any thoughts ,,,Thanks.

Save yourself future headaches of having to diagnose which one breaks, WHEN they inevitably fail, and just buy the other 6. I just had the same thing happen with my 2000, at about 113K. Two coils went bad at once, two weeks later one more, another week later, another one. At number 5 I decided to just buy the other 4 and call it a day. Some people apply the "if it ain't broke" theory here, but I say screw that. It's one thing if you only have to drive around the corner, if you do a lot of driving in places you'd rather not be stranded in, just replace them.

If one were to break would it cause a misfire?

Yes, a failed one will most definitely cause a misfire. The coil is what generates the spark for the spark plug.

I carry spares, and can change one out in just about one minute. I don't know who designed that system for the 4.6, but I hope they finally got their drinking under control.

Coils don't last for ever. From what i understand they last about 100k then it is a good idea to replace. If you had 2 of them go bad already i think this should reinforce the idea it is time to change them all and be done with it.

I have seen many factory installed COP's go well over 100K usually on cars that haven't had their engines cleaned whistle

Apparently PepBoys carries a set of 8... for $50...? Has anyone ever tried these, because as of now I'm going to assume they're made of foam and cardboard?

Uh, where to find spares? My car is now sputtering and being dumb with no power. Classic COP failure. Are junkyard COPS safe?

I cant recommend a junkyard COP, as you dont know the age and how well it works. Id opt for buying them online, either Accel, or MSD like I have would be nice.

Some members opted for the ebay ones for 80 for all 8, I had a bad experience and my cheap ebay coils went out in 1 month.

I have 8 COPS laying around my house lol. 2 are original, 95k on them, 6 are not original, not sure how many on them(less than 90k though; I'm going to guess 40k - 50k on them). All work fine. If you ant to buy, PM me.

My ebay coils are still working great after a year and a half and over 15,000 miles. Some people have had great luck.....some not so much.

My ebay COPs lasted me about 40k +/- I wish it would go longer but at the same time 8 for $75 or so beats the cost of autozone or the like in my book.
