Just watch the latest episode of Top Gear. The hosts had to goo from LA to San Fran in a $500 car. The bearded guy bought a Ford Festive. The race car drive, a 1980's Vintage E-Class Mercedes with some body damage, and the New Yorker bought a 1994 Crown Vic with 400,000+ miles on the odometer.

Guess which one won the race?

At the end of the show, the guy with the beard said the Crown Vic was the first car the New Yorker couldn't kill by the end of the episode!

Not bad for a vomit comet with nearly half a million miles on it!

The challenge (on Top Gear America tonight) 500 miles in a $500 "clunker".

Adam Ferrara bought a 94 CV ex taxi with 420,xxx miles hairraise, and given his record you can guess what happened to it.

If you haven't seen it I wont spoil it, but spoiler alert...

Click to reveal..
It won! It seems the old vic didn't miss a beat

It was nice to see that they finally got one for their challenge things

Great... Now I'll have to force myself to watch another episode of that show. I guess maybe I should give it another chance, but the couple episodes I saw last year were definitely "meh". Anything involving road trips with $500 cars should be entertaining though.

Reminds me of the Top Gear episode where they went to America and all bought cars for like $1000 and did a road trip from Miami to New Orleans. One guy bought a Camaro, another a pick up, and the other one a Cadillac. That was really entertaining.

Yeah, that's one of my favorites. Seems like a lot of the challenges on the U.S. show echo ones from the BBC one, except that the hosts aren't as funny. Sometimes the cars make up for it though. The Buick Roadmaster was pretty heroic in the one where they had to pick a car to save GM. And I have to admit I laughed my ass off when the '76 Caddy Ferrara was driving took a nose dive off that dirt jump.

Best part was the guy getting in the taxi. I wonder if that was staged.

Yeah, frankly, I'll watch Top Gear America if there is nothing else on. Like last night when I caught the rerun of this Crown Vic episode at like 3AM. But really, it just doesn't compare to the English one. It's like a bad rip off. And honestly, I find that Rutledge guy a bit annoying. Just saying.

As for the English one, it's awesome. I love the specials, like last night I saw the one where they drive a Ferrari 458, a Mercedez SLS, and a Porsche GT3 up the eastern US coast, and it was quite entertaining. And honestly, I enjoy it more when they review American cars (even though they are always bashing on them) than when they do the small Euro cars, but it is a European show, so what can you do.

I liked the analysis of the "residue" on the interiors. The old taxi had a blood soaked back seat (previous life as a cop car?) and traces of vomit thoughout the floor. Did I miss it or did he only pay $350 for the taxi?

The Mercedes had staph virus thoughout the interior - how the **** does that happen? The Ford Festiva was apparently the breeding room for dogs......

The show seems to be getting a little better over time. Its funny watching them do challenges that are copied from the UK version.

I missed this episode frown I wonder if its on on-demand yet??

I find American Top gear actually pretty entertaining. Most of the first season was pretty awful, but by the end of the season, and thru the second season so far it is way better and seems to keep getting better. It seems like its better if you don't try and compare it to the BBC version, there really isn't any comparison, they are like completely different shows.

You guys do know most of the people who work on Top Gear USA also work on Top Gear UK right? They are both produced by the BBC, that's why they're similar. This season has been great, not one lame episode yet this year.
