Works great on shower doors too. Keeps you from getting soap scum build up.

Guys, Guys, Guys! Rain-X is a good product that is too hard to apply, specially if you live anywhere it gets down to the 30's temperature and you have no garage.
The best thing I've found is by Castrol. Called "Super Clean - Accuvision". Check out this link:
http://www.castrolusa.com/products/default.asp?prod_mp=6
It applies like water, doesn't require buffing like wax, has no buildup, can be applied in winter and seems to last at least as long as Rain-X.
They don't have an anti fog product, however. Haven't tried the wheel cleaner or degreaser yet. If anyone else has any info, pass it on!

I try the accusvision, it works great and all, but doesn't last as long as Rain-X.

I used rain-X years ago and it hazed up on me within 2 weeks. It was fine if you kept re-applying.

I'll give it a try again though. I've never had a problem with the wipers in the crown vic keeping up, but the honda's wipers are worthless in the rain. I also keep fresh wipers on my car's. It's worth the $10/year for wiper refills to stay alive.

Mine has never hazed up and I've been using it since I started driving.

Just had the windshield replaced not thirty minutes ago and was chatting with the installer about Rain-X windshield washer fluid. He said it was terrific, but if you used it when you had a stone chip in your windshield, that chip would no longer be repairable with the clear epoxy resin because the Rain-X "contaminates" the chip and cannot be cleaned out, preventing a good repair of the chip.

This makes moderate sense to me as Rain-X is sort of an "anti-wetting agent", increasing the surface tension of the glass so water beads up and blows off. Thought I'd pass it along.

Regards,

Rain-X is just a wax.

That it can't be fixed. That's my guess.

RainX can be removed. I have seen a can of stuff specifically made to do so on sale at PepBoys.

I question the ability to completely remove it after it has wicked, via capillary action, deep into the fissures of the stone chip.

I suppose that if you repeatedly saturated it with an appropriate solvent and then drew it out with clean absorbent pads, you might get most of it, but I suspect that you'd still get a less-than-perfect repair of the stone chip compared to never having exposed it to the Rain-X.

I operate on the presumption that a guy that repairs stone chips professionally for a living isn't talking out his a$$. I may not take it as gospel, but I'll certainly play it through and think about the likelihood that it's valid information.
