LOL not so easy. you can still do it yourself but it will be lots of work.

I followed the procedure in the link above. Some people have said they can get the passenger side valve cover off without removing the A/C evaporator assembly. Since I was changing the A/C compressor, the system was discharged anyway, so I did it the hard way, lol. The guys that get the cover off without removing the evaporator talk about twisting, and bending the cover to get it off. That made me nervous, lol

take lots of pics and read the link above a few times and get everything ready. You will be removing a lot, so think of anything else you may need.

Regarding RH cover: It's much easier to remove without taking off the evap box by removing the two RH motor mount bolts (one through-bolt and one on top by the exhaust manifold) and jacking the motor up to let it pivot on the LH mount. A couple of inches and your life has just been made a whole lot easier. Also take off the wiper tray to give some more room to place the Evap valve out of the way.

The shop that I had Time-sert my #3 plug quoted me $400 to replace both valve cover gaskets. Considering what a PITA it appears to be that dosen't seem too bad. I'm sure I could do it myself, I just don't think I want to.

That job is worth $400 to you? Jeeze I wish I were closer. I'd come do it for $50 and a case of beer.

If you aren't willing to do it yourself then paying someone else isn't the end of the world. I just like to see people save money and tackle things themselves.

And thats coming from me... I make my living off people who don't feel like doing work on their cars.

worst you could do is try it. if all else fails put what you have back together and take it in. you arent really going to make it worse.

I just can't stomach paying to get stuff fixed so I find a way to do it.

I took the covers off the Lincoln a few times now, but I confirmed with Quicksters car the Lincoln has more room between the engine and evap/firewall than a Same year Vic

The passenger side it a [censored]. I felt like giving up on it after a while, but very satisfying when you finally get it back on.

If you can get it out. You can get it back in.

This is something I want to do during my PI intake manifold install, since I have a leaking grommet on the passenger side.

With the whole freakin manifold out of the way, there should be enough room to take the cover off without removing the evaporator, right?! Or will I still hit the evaporator trying to lift the cover and clear the cam gear?

my 92 had rocker issues on the r/h side so the cover came off a few times and i never pulled the evap box, but it was a tight fit, i think if there had been less room i would have went after the motor mount first, but be prepared to fight the cover gasket during reassembly...

Don't scare this guy. I didn't even remove the 2 fuel lines from the fuel rail and was still able to snake the valve cover on through. Only tore the insulation on the A/C box in a small location. Removed the passenger side coils, unplugged all 8 injectors and coils, removed all of the wiring harnesses out of the way...

You will have a few scraped knuckles but nothing to be too worried about.

The passenger side is more of a hassle but the driver side is a complete piece of cake.

my story is identical to yours except i didnt remove anything other than the valve cover, i didnt mess with any injectors or any wiring... i just damaged the wrap on the evap box, but unless you were looking for it you couldnt tell

I don't think you can really do anything to stop tearing the insulation on that box, it just depends on how much it tears..minimal tearing is the goal
