Oh mah gad.

http://news.msn.com/us/regulators-probe-ford-taurus-sable-for-throttle-issue

DETROIT - U.S. safety regulators are investigating 310,000 Taurus and Mercury Sable cars built by Ford Motor Co over a problem that could cause the throttle to be stuck open.

The cars were built for the model years 2000 to 2003 and equipped with 3.0-liter V6 Duratec engines, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The agency received 50 complaints of possible stuck throttles that could have been caused by fractured speed control cable collars. The problem may lead to an engine component getting stuck when the throttle is closing, leaving the throttle 26 percent open.

In a statement on Friday, Ford said it was cooperating with NHTSA.

"We have just begun our investigation and have very limited information at this time," Ford spokeswoman Marcey Zwiebel said.

10-12 year old cars having partially stuck throttles....That sounds more like a poor/lack of maintenance issue, or just old age, more than it does a recall.

AND it states pretty clearly due to a broken component...

Which is undoubtedly plastic, which dries out over time especially when exposed to heat, becomes brittle and breaks.

Never seen that happen before, have we?

Time to recall every car ever made since 1958 I think...

And that's not even a D3 Taurus. No bounty from Armada for this one.

Stuck in the middle with you~

Even so, this is funny. I guess they determined the vulnerability existed regardless of vehicle age?

Well I don't think that term is ever used in a spatially-accurate sense, especially not in that song.

I still think he'd be happy to hear about a unibody product's troubles.

Well, it's along the same lines as the Panther's plastic TV cable grommet that would crack, fall out, and toast your AOD in about 5-miles... Some plastics will fatigue and fail regardless of the vehicle's construction methods.

This is very similar to the escape TB issues recently... plastics failing and interfering with the normal operation of the TB
