So Driving home this morning, all is good. I am about to pull into my parking spot, notice a sever shudder and loss of some power. Along with engine noise, clunking and such. Turn it off immediately. felt like it was running on 3 cylinders...check COPS, all seem to be tight, check oil level and it is dry, just a drop on the bottom of the dip stick. Checked coolant, looks green, a lil dark...but not milky or overly oily. I checked my parking spot from the night before,no oil spot...so my problem is where did all the oil go? would a bad oil pump show no oil in the case? my car burns minimal oil, and as of now has not leaked any...I am going to fill the oil to proper level before I try to start it again.

So why would it run fine, then within 5 seconds dump all oil and lose most power? I don't think I would of caused much damage as it ran fine and as soon as there was any shudder it was powered off within 10 seconds and only had a slight load.

ANY idea's of where to start??

Oil filter come loose? Oil cooler o-rings? Oil filter adapter gasket (where it bolts to the block)? Drain plug come loose?

No, a bad oil pump wouldn't cause the dipstick to read low.

After you refill it, when you go to start the engine hold the pedal to the floor...that will keep it from starting and let you crank it around some to build oil pressure before it fires.

I was thinking one of those too, but I couldn't see any oil pooling around any of said parts, but I only took a quick peek. Ill check it more thoroughly when I go out later...

The oil went some place...

If it isn't leaking it's burning, no other choices...

The oil from the top end most likely hasnt drained into the pan yet. Same happens if I check after running - check after 20 minutes being off you'll get more accurate measurement . Hopefully you'll be able to measure how much if its burning. Also A plugged positive crankcase ventilation PCV valve will cause more oil burning when its not working-

Well Im sure it burned it up, but never seen it smoke, or smelled it. never had a oil problem. I filled it up to proper level, and crank it a bit to get oil pressure. Start it up, sound wretched...IDK but it sounds like this motor is toast. Ill make a video In a bit and put it up, u all can tell me what u think. I am sad...

I know that, thing is...I had just check it 2 days before was half a qrt low...so I added the half qrt. it ran great for the 15 mins I drove it today, then literally as I was pulling into my parking spot it did this...no lights no sound getting louder, just crapped out...Ive seen engines go before, and normally it gets worse not just suddenly. : /

For the OP oil pressure has long since built to max from running it... All cranking does is build pressure without actually running the engine...

The noise is 99% a rocker clattering, most likely due to a collapsed lash adjuster... Hopefully it doesn't score the camshaft...

Throw a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in it and let it idle for 10-15 min to see if it will free up...

How much oil did you have to add to get it to the proper level?
