OK here are a few pictures. I have confirmed with Pony R Parts that the production units will be black in color. It bolts right on, very simple to install.

I did a PI intake swap on my car today. I should be able to get the car out on the road in the next couple days.

Sorry for the crappy pictures....... frown

This is the rain deflector shield that bolts to the wiper cowl.

Yup, black would definitely look much better under that cowl.

I just wanted to point out a couple of things. Looks like we will be offering 2 separate kits. The only difference being in the splash plates. Does anyone one know when the cowl was changed? Was it in 2003 with the last "major" update?

The filter type is a polyester material. Low restriction, high efficiency grade. We tested the draw on the motor blower without a evaporator core aft of the blower motor, just filter alone. There was just over a 1% increase in current draw by the motor. Basically that means this filter will not damage the blower motor. It will actually benefit it since the resistance imparted by a clogged evaporator core will not increase.

On the flip side, you do not want to use a thicker or more dense filter element since it could have an adverse affect on the blower motor. I would submit that you can use a spray that will increase the particle capture rate of the filter such as,
http://www.americanhvacparts.com/p-11523...to-65-16oz.aspx
We do not endorse this product but offer it as a possible suggestion to improve the performance of you filter element. The key is that whatever spray you use, if you decide to use one, it should state, "Does not restrict air flow!". We have not used any sprays on our test vehicles.

Thanks,

How will these filters hold up to wet weather? (rain/snow/ice)

We have used them in heavy rain with not problems.

High dust also not problem. They get pretty black but still flow well. Its up to you how often you want to change the filter element. We have no recommendations on change intervals since it
really depends on the user and the environment. We suggest checking the filter for the first time at 3K and then again at 6K miles. However do not go more than 10K miles without checking.
AT that point you should be able to determine what change intervals are best for you.

Snow we have not tested.

That's good to know. Is it a standard filter size (Regular part #)that you can purchase a replacement from any company or will the replacements only come from you?

Thanks.

CVCobraLX27, the replacement filter element is not a standard part. It is custom made to fit the base. Our replacement filters will cost $12. Most of that cost is packaging and shipping since we have to send it in a small box to keep the sides from getting crushed.

We are considering making available templates for people to make their own filter elements. That is a slippery slope, though, since you have to be very careful with the material you decide to use. There are efficiency and flow ratings to consider as well as particulate removal ratings.

If these kits become popular, we will definitely improve upon the product as much as we can.

Here is a picture of the pre-production Pony R Parts recirculated Cabin Air Filter kits. They sit behind the glove box on the blower motor/air inlet housing. There is an upper and lower element.

On some of the earlier cars, you will have to remove the electronics box to gain access. Fortunately its really not that bad. Looks worse than what it really is. Here is a picture with the box moved out of the way.

Some year cars will not have that electronics box in the way.
The above pictures are from a 2003 Crown Vic.

OK so I finally had my car out on the El Mirage dry lake bed. I can tell you that it was very dusty but I could detect no dust coming out of my vents while using the A/C in the normal position.

It's raining here in Southern California today. Once it clears I will get a picture of the filter element now that it's been used a bit.
