A friend of mine took a 302 & 2.somethin to 1 gears out of his 69 mustang (17 or 18 sec car) and put in a junk yard 460. All the 460 had was a cam swap, intake, carb and headers. With 3.50 gears he ran 12.1s all day long.

I've always wanted a 70's Thunderbird. Fast name, slow car.

Nice looking car, I almost bought a 78 to use as a daily driver with 30k miles mint one owner car for $3k but I passed on it, was a stripper model too but had 351w and yellow on brown interior/top. Also for fixing the clock inside they use points inside the movement and overtime the points get build up or corrosion on them and no longer will move. Usually take some fine sandpaper and clean the points and a little light oil on the gears should get it working. I have the same design clock in my 72 mustang and have fixed about 3 with that method.

Very nice. My preference is to have junkyard fun, find an F series with a roller 351W and a 5 speed, and go bang gears till the 5 speed goes boom, then go to a TKO.

I really like the wheels with just dog dish caps.

My preference though, get some 80's GMC truck 15" wheels, knock out the centers, and weld in Ford 15" wheel centers, and run 295/65/15 drag radials on the back...because LOL they fit with no need to tub.

The Thunderbird is now out of its winter tomb and I am back at work so have some money the throw around. Plus i traded in my 2000 CVPI with a 2009 CVPI with 30,000miles and some accident damage but drives great and seems reliable. First thing this year it needs is some new front end rubbers due to age and a radio since the old one died.

Does anyone know where to find and older sized radio since it is a lot narrower than the modern radios and has knobs that stick through the dash.

If you haven't found it 460ford.com is the best place to look for ideas on the 429-460 buildup. They even lay out combos with ball park figures on power output. Info on everything from stock iron heads to all out pro racing. Thank the Lord for the big block Ford!

If you were heading to Carlise, PA this coming weekend; you probably could find an old radio of that vintage. Most Ford factory radios were pretty much the same size from 1973 through 1984.

I remember back then - I was a GM guy, my sincerest apologies - and I thought such Ford products were simply awful.

Today I'd LOVE to find a nice one with a low miles 351 or 460 or something. Ideally would be like a 72 or 73 2-door Gran Torino.

So seldom anymore does one see a car that one can readily identify, or even really care about enough to invest the effort in wanting to try.

Goes to show one never appreciates what one has until it's gone.

This is just the first site that popped up doing a search for vintage retrofit ford radios. I think summit racing carries this sort of thing too. I couldn't tell you who is the best, I just know their are several choices out there.

I have finally acquired a 460. It is nothing special, just a 90's RV engine. It still has the EFI rig on it, but I have already ordered a four barrel Holley and an Edelbrock Performer intake.

All I am looking for now is the c6 tranny and accompanying hardware.

I had a hard time finding a Thunderbird radio since my dash was modified to a Din size. Was finally able to locate one at www.vintagecarradio.com
