Did a little Spring cleaning a couple of weeks ago and wasn't too thrilled about the Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell that I used. Not to say that it didn't fulfill it's purpose or nothing, but saw that there were better products out there.

This is a befor and after shot.

Car isn't really dirty, just dusty from sitting in the garage.

After shot.

Point being to this thread is that I've read that Turtle Wax works better with Clay or what not.

So with that being said, what do you guys use or prefer for that good wax shine???

These days I'm all about FK1000P. Looks good, lasts for many months, resists etching from bugs and bird-bombs, clean up very well (dirt doesn't stick). It works better for me than my other stuff like Collinite, Blackfire, Klasse, etc. etc.

Gotta prep the paint right before using your LSP (Last Step Product, i.e., "wax")though, the look is 95% in the prep (polishing, paint-cleaning, etc. and that includes claying).

Meguires Caranuba wax paste, its more expensive, but it shines well and lasts longer than most I've used. But I too, use the turtle with regularity. Turtle wax isn't the best, but its one of the easiest to work with and it sure is cheap and easy to find. Works good enough.

Turtle Wax is crap. It doesn't deserve to go on paint. Check out Autogeek's website for some real car detailing know-how.

I think I'm going to do the clay. I would go with Griot's garage stuff, but that's a little too expensive for my blood. Actually twice the amount of Mother's. Will just use Mother's and see how that turns out.

Besides the AutoGeek forum, also check out Autopia.org

junior- I was sorely disappointed with Griot's waxes and polishes. They do sell some stuff that's worth the price IMO, but not in those categories.

Mother's clay kit is good, or at least it was the last time I tried it (can't tell a diff from what Griot's sells either).

For a milder clay that won't strip the wax, try Sonus SFX.

jbaker- people do [screw] up with clay, causing marring. Too litle lube, too much pressure, not enough kneading/replacement.

Claying tip: tear the claybar into small pieces instead of using the whole thing all at once. Us fanatics toss each piece (well, relegate it to wheel-duty) as it gets contaminated since contaminated clay usually = sandpaper.

Yeah the Griot's clay bar spray is like $39.99 vs mothers from the Mart of Wal for $12.98. Yeah definately will go with Mothers now.

Mothers is pretty good stuff. Hell of a lot better than Turtle Wax.

Really easily. Too much pressure, not enough lube, and you'll mar and scratch the paint.

Guess I'll test it out on the truck first. Would hate to scratch my baby up.

I used to detail cars in the past. Turtle wax was always on our shelves. I still use it today.
