Hey guys,

I recently have had a rattle present itself. It's coming from the engine bay. I don't hear it on start-up, but you can hear it mostly at 40ish when it shifts into overdrive. Also, on the highway with 1/4 throttle. I'm really hoping it's not anything to due with timing chains or guides.

Any guesses or insight
Thanks

Also car just turned over 99,000

You say it's coming from the engine bay, but have you isolated it beyond that (front dress, valvetrain, low end, etc)?
Could be a loose exhaust component or cats failing, or A/C compressor clutch, or something else...
Doubt it's timing guides - those are definitely noticeable at idle.

No I haven't really been able to isolate it, due to it not happening at idle. If it's not timing guides then I could care less what's rattling lol. I'll try to track it down later this week. Name that rattle on the internet is near impossible. Thank you for putting my mind at ease re the timing guides.

Thanks again

The timing guides are most prone to failure on the 2000-03 cars.

Is the noise audible enough in the car where you might be able to catch some video to share with us?

Mine every once in awhile had a very disturbing buzz/rattle at around 30 mph intermittently. Turned out to be the cat heat shield, though it sounded like something much more expensive.

Tried to take a video/sound clip. You couldn't really hear it like in person. Sounds like it's coming more from the right side. Maybe it's the first cat over there. So long as it's not catastrophic, I'm not going to worry.

Thanks all

Mine was from the right side also, it was the right cat heat shield. Hopefully yours is not something bad.

Thank you. What did you end up doing to your heat shield to stop the rattle?
