My 2003 cvpi has gotten to where when I start it especially when engine is cold it idles way to high. More than half the time once warmed up it will idle normal but sometimes it stays at high idle even after the engine gets hot. The high idle is causing my car to have erratic shifts in the transmission. Can someone please tell me how to repair this? Thanks

And inspect intake plenum and clean if needed. I've seen them caked in carbon from EGR and PCV.

Wow, I cleaned the throttle body with MAF cleaner. It had lots of black sooty looking stuff in it. The car idles like it should now but more amazing to me is all the erratic shifts and the car going in and out of overdrive are all gone now. The car shifts just like it should. I guess the higher than normal idle and sticking TB fooled the computer into thinking the car was going faster than it actually was causing shifts into to high of gears. That's all I can figure it was anyway. Its actually fun driving my car again.
