Does anyone here know a lot about coil on plug iginition, how it works, what tells the coils to fire in which order, and could it be run off the old computer system from a 93 Mark VIII if wired properly? Any suggestions would help.

You'd most likely have to get a computer from a car that used COPs. I'd venture to say it would be impossible to operate a COP system off a computer that wasn't set up for it.

The ECU tells when the coils to fire, it's just simple ignition timing and firing order...

As far as swaping, I have no idea...

Background info would be extremely helpful, but I'll go out on a limb here.

You're putting a DOHC Marauder engine into a '92 Crown Victoria. Get a Marauder Computer.

The trans is also going to be an issue.

The coils are fired by drivers within the PCM. I've never seen a 1993 model year anything with coil on plug ignition.

I can't use a marauder computer because then I'd have to get a marauder fuel pump and a marauder tranny and rear axle to run the speedometer. I mean it could be done like that but I don't have the money.

You HAVE to have the PCM programmed to control your AODE.
The first application that comes even close to fitting your criteria is the '97 Mark VIII, which was the first Ford with COP ignition.

Why don't you just take the coil packs off the front of your old SOHC and fit them to the 32V? Oh, right, that would make too much sense.

Hey Ron, we may end up doing that, but first I wanted to see if we could make the coil on plug ignition work.

actually, the pcm worked well controlling the tranny, but I can't remember if we used the Mark VIII PCM or the Crown Vic one? I think we used the Mark VIII PCM from 93-94 Mark VIII, I know it had a 4R70W Tranny, but it works well with the AODE.
