My serpentine belt went the other night coming home. Does anyone have a diagram? Mine is no longer on under the hood and can not find anything in the owners manual. I'm running a 2000 Crown Vic P71. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I tried to draw this out for you but it's not working.

Alternator:
ribbed side down, over the top...then
Idler pulley:
smooth side under it...then
Tensioner:
same as idler pulley...then
A/C:
ribbed side around left side of pulley...then
Crank pulley:
ribbed side around bottom...then
Water pump pulley:
ribbed side around the top...then
P.S. pulley:
smooth side around the bottom...then
back to the top of the Alternator pulley

Make sure you squeeze the belt down to fit between the tensioner pulley and the A/C pulley, otherwise it won't make sense.

By the way, this info came off my '93 as the wife is out with the '00.

Slentzer, is that for the 98 or '00+? They changed the routing in 2000, FYI.

Thanks guys! The pics were great! I was talking to a buddy who has several vics and he kept telling me to from the alternator, to the power steering, to the water pump and then back to the crank pulley after that he cut out on the cell phone and I never did reach him again. Anyway, he had the crank pulley and water pump out of order. I finished everything up in the rain, because I couldn't wait to get it back out on the road. Of course, it let up as soon as I finished. Thanks for all the help!

Oh, my mistake. I thought the belt routing changed along with the PI heads/manifold in 2001. It is the '98 routing.

From the looks of everything my buddy was looking at an older model. I'm working on a webpage for them right now. They currently outfit crown vics, expeditions, excursions, pickups, and a few other vehicles with lights, sirens, cages, graphics and radios. They often have several used P71's sitting around for sale. It is not unusual to drive up and see 25 or 30 Vic's sitting in the lot waiting to be worked on. It is great! I always get to test drive the new cars to figure out what has changed from the year before. I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks again for the help!!

Thanks again guys!

If you change your belt feel the bearings in the tensioner pulley. I did (by chance) and found they were pretty gritty and replaced the wheel for $15 and dodged a bullet.

Good thing to check whenever your belt is loosened (for whatever reason). It's also called the idler pulley, btw.

No, it's not. The tensioner pulley and idler pulley are two seperate pullies.
