Ok I'm totally incompetent and can't quite wait for my friend to come over so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone is able to help. I'm trying to swap out my wheel covers/hubcaps on my 2001 CV LX. Can't figure out how to get the old ones off

The new ones have black clips or something on the inside that seem to be permanently attached to the hubcap. I tried rotating the one on the car now and it doesn't seem to come lose. Don't really want to pry it off as it might break a clip or whatever is holding it on.

Thanks for the help guys =\ I'm kind of new as you can tell.

If they are these kind,

they pry off with a screwdriver, crowbar, etc.

I don't know what in the world kind of wheel covers you've got on an LX as they usually have spoke wheels.

New Mercury's have wheel covers that the center must be pryed out first, then you need the special tool to take the cover off from there.

Yes, you have to pry the chrome center out first, then there is a special nut in there.

Are those the kind that need the tool in the glove box to remove? There some kind of key or tool used to unlock them to take them off.

According to the Ford website I think these are the

-Cross spoke chrome locking wheel covers

I just looked in the glove box and I don't see anything to take these off with. I tried prying them with a screwdriver but they don't seem to be budging easily though they did come out about a quarter of an inch from the wheel.

Really have no idea here
I can't see the lugnuts or anything. The only thing I have access to with these on is the valve to put air in the tires.

If you need better pictures just let me know. I'm not sure what this key should look like but I'm going to check in the trunk.

Thanks for helping me figure this out guys.

Yes those are the locking wheel covers. Don't pry or force them or you'll mess them up. If you cannot locate the "key" then go to ford and buy one.

Actually I figured out I just pop out the plastic ford logo center thing and it has a regular screw that comes off. Then the whole wheel cover comes off. No special key or tool needed!

Thanks guys!
