The IAC valve on the 96-00 Crown Vics will cause the car to stall at idle, a bad thing. For 01+, Ford redesigned the IAC valve so that it will emit a BOOOOO sound like the old 92-95 one. When your IAC valve needs replacing, your car will still operate, and you will know FOR CERTAIN its the IAC, no more questions. I advise upgrading to this part for those reasons.

Paul

My 2000 made the Booo. Although it never died, it would stumble and idle very slow at times. Started every now and then, increased to often. Here's a pic of the new IAC Valve. The old had a spring on the shaft and the shaft went all the way into the housing. Hard to tell, but there's a small gap between the end of the shaft and the housing here.

I replaced the IAC on my 2000 because of an occasional idle stall problem. When I installed the new part, the idle ran too high when the AC compressor came on; the idle was also higher than it should have been in idle. I sent it back for a replacement.

I never did disconnect the battery to reset the computer. Is this really necessary when replacing the IAC? When I reinstalled the original IAC the car ran normal, but as I said in my previous post, the new IAC had a higher idle, especially on startup and when the AC compressor came on. I really had to press hard on the brake when at a light.
