Hope this is the right place for this.

My '94 Vic recently only likes to blow air when on the most powerful setting only. THe lower speeds don't work at all.

Where should I start looking? Could this be a simple fuse? Thanks.

It sounds like the blower motor resistor's gone south. I think it's attached to the blower motor under the glove box. Unfortunately, I don't own a '94 so I'm not positive on the location.

The blower motor resistor is on the firewall, pass side Check that first.

For my car the HVAC head unit itself was the problem. I only had High and second from low. Replaced HVAC head unit from Junkyard (this was replaced in that car from another one, it had a junkyard mark already!!) Now I have all the speeds, and High blows much better too!!

Cool, so I assume this resistor is inside the vehicle and not in the engine compartment?

Where can I get a replacement resistor from? There is a huge wharehouse here that makes nothing but fuses, maybe they will have the part.

Thanks

The resistor is in the engine bay just R of center at the back just below the wiper & beside the heater hoses. It's mounted in the air duct by 2 screws, but the connector is usually a B!T(# to unplug. This pic is fuzzy, but it's between the upper heater core nipple & the hose with the red sticker.

Sweet!

Anyway to test the resistor with a DVM?

Thanks.

It is not a simple resistor, but a BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ASSEMBLY -- Four speeds, three resistors. There is a relay that defaults to high speed if the temp gets too high , IIRC. You might be able to repair it, but most people just yank it our and replace it for about 17 bucks. N.B., the assembly is different for manual control v.s. EATC.

You could just have a connector problem at that assembly.

Ahh...thanks for the update.

So I take it this is a dealer item only? Anyone have a part #? Thanks.

In my 99 manual: E3AZ19A706A if you have knobs.

In case you do want to try to diagnose it, not that this is on the ground side of the motor. There are three resistors in my diagram, two-0.5 ohm and one-1.3 ohm. It looks like low speed uses all three, the next uses both 0.5s and the penultimate speed uses one of the 0.5s. .

Yeah, its the blower motor resistor assembly; mine went out last summer at 150k '95. I reccomend removing the tree of vaccum lines that goes to some assembly right above it on the cowl in order to have easier access. Just use a 1/4" Ratchet, and realize its not the easiest fit; I could replace it in 15 minutes, and while your doing that since you have time and already unplugged your battery... Clean your MAF and do yourself the favor!

Is this solution the same if you have the older EATC system with the sliding buttons in a 1994 Grand Marquis?

My A/C blows plenty cold, but it works only when the buttons are slid to the AUTO setting, and the temparature button is slid to the 65 degree position.

Is the repair the same on an autotemp vs manual system for a 1994? I am willing to try to replace a $17 part on my own, but if it requires taking apart the dashboard, I'm not that hardcore of a DIY.

I love my old GM, but it's not like I'm keeping it because I cannot afford a new one - so if it starts to rack up too much repairs, I'll probably trade her in. I'd send her to a new owner at the same time I can joyfully dump my POS Dodge Intrepid on some poor sap.

This was the blower motor relay in my 2006 Crown Victoria LX. It failed after approximately 68,000 miles (manufactured February, 2006, went out May, 2013). The issue was the EATC fan controller only has two ways of working: off, and, full blast. No button or dial manipulation could fix it, and the EATC self-diagnostic returned no codes, so it wasn't the EATC controller itself. Hope this fact helps someone out somewhere out there.
