When changing my spark plugs this weekend my girlfriend and I managed to break 4 of the fuel injector plug retaining clips. THe connectors are currently secured on with lots of electrical tape meant for high temp areas but... I don't feel safe leaving like this long term. The listed part number is WPT 177 and a quick question to my local ford dealer says that part is not in stock but they can order it for 23.71 each..... online I can find WPT177 as either discontinued or as superceded by part WPT159. 159 is listed as an audio speaker connector. They look the exact same to me but I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced these before and if the WPT 159 is the new part number.

As a side note... if I order the WPT159 from rockauto.com and it's the wrong part will they let me return it?

I've seen zip ties used successfully.

Zip Ties on all of mine. There were only two not broken after I tested the connectors.

I will use that for the time being... but long term I would feel better (albeit maybe a waste of money in your eyes) having correctly soldered in NEW connectors. No junkyard parts since they are likely just as worn as mine heatwise. Anyone have experience on this part change or at least know who in ford I cant contact about that? I doubt the guys at my dealership want me bothering them again...

Part No: wpt-159
Desc: Injector Connector - Fuel Injection

Connector/Pigtail - AC/Htr Swtch/Rely" Door Jamb Pigtail - Body Switches & Relays" Horn Pigtail - Body Switches & Relays" Speaker Pigtail - Body Switches & Relays"
Manufacturer: MOTORCRAFT
Years: 99 - 05
Applications: 126

It is for a fuel injector (among other things), however it is not listed in the Motorcraft pigtail guide as a replacement for the injectors on 99+ The list only shows a replacement for 92-98 (says 92-97 on cv only, but for GMW/TC it says 92-98, so it must have been a mistake on the year) however they use a different injector style.

But, if it looks the same, try one. If it turns out to be right get the rest.

The WPT159 conenctors list retail for about $20, I too come up with WPT177 being superceded by WPT159.

Duuude. How'd you do that? I changed all my cops, then took cops off again, then put in plugs and I wasn't even near the fuel injectors. I don't get it. Is your engine that different than mine?

Correct, there should be no need to remove any fuel stuff to do the spark plugs.

(Notice the girlfriend reference...)
When I directed my assistant to remove "these plugs" pointing to the COPs she mistakenly pulled off 16 plugs instead of 8.....

I figure that Ford uses the same crappy plastic that will break again so why replace the connector. Use a zip tie.

I guess because it makes me feel better... since nobody has any experience with the new part # I"ll just take a chance on it... thanks guys for the zip tie suggestion. Working great as a temporary fix.

I don't know yet. Interestingly I had a good conversation the other day with a police officer about my car... so I won't be replacing them.

I was sitting in my coffee shop and commented on their car and we got to talking and I brought it up and he showed me his poliec car engine here (an 04) and he has broken connectors with green zip ties on them. It's kinda funny to think about but I decided that I would just leave the zip ties on. I'm having a hard time working 40 hours and doing school for another 20 each week AND having time to touch my car.
