Long story short, my Vics ( 93 P-71 in my sig) fuel pump sender started leaking, after learning it's bitch to fix I parked the Vic and drove the Mustang. In the meantime I found a good deal on a new fuel pump/sender housing assy.

Yesterday the trans in the stang self destructed so now my nuts are in a bind, gotta get something up and running soon.

Now to the problem at hand:

I was expecting the braided lines to be stuck to the rusty sender lines, and was correct

I was planning on perhaps removing the braided lines, and replacing them along with the pump assy. One big stumble is that the end of the braided lines has some mystery connection to the factory steel lines that lead back to the engine. I can take a picture when I go back out there. The SS lines appear to be pressed on the steel lines, certianly not a quick disconnect line like where they attach to the fuel assy.

I am prepared to use my backup plan of cutting off the SS lines and using hose to connect to the pump ASSY. That seems so wrong so I am hoping to avoid that. The factory connections to the fuel filter are rubber so there is some hope in this.

HELP GUYS.

One line is the fuel pump output, the other is the return line from the regulator.

The fuel circulates to the engine and that which is not burned is pumped back to the tank.

I had the same problem with my 93. After talking to the dealer and finding out that replacement fuel lines cost $1100 CDN I just cut the lines on the body side and replaced it with some high pressure rubber fuel line. Just be sure to put a bump on the end of the steel line with a double flaring tool. Just do the first step in the double flare process. It will leave a nice bump on the end of the line to help retain the rubber hose. Use high pressure hose and clamps as the line pressure can get up around 70 psi. I used the same hose on the return side but you don't really need to, it just has to be fuel rated. I also promised myself that I would replace the rubber hose every 3 years for safety's sake.

The pump puts out 40 Lbs in a test outside the tank. (new pump)

Testing at the fuel rail, it is 40 Lbs with the vacuum line off the regulator, and 30 Lbs with it on. (engine idling)

What about when the engine is a full throttle? I think the pressure is a little higher then.

No, the pressure should never go higher than ~40psi unless you kink the return line.

Here are some photos of fuel pump fittings, but not on a Panther. Maybe they'll help...

You will want to use some PBBlaster or WD-40 on the connections before you insert the tool to disconnect the lines. Take your time and let the solvents do their work. Then your work will be much easier.
