I have a 2009 cvpi that will not go into park. I’ve been having this problem for about a week, I am not able to select park with my column shifter. Have to start from neutral and other gears are fine. If I just try to throw it in park it will select reverse - it will still allow me to turn off the engine and take the key out of the ignition but will roll if it’s on a hill. Everything I read says two screws by steering column - but I do not have this bracket. Can try to adjust maybe, or bushings on tube if I have them? I just am trying to see if anyone’s had/resolved this issue. Everything I’ve been reading is about if your car is stuck in park, or older models.

Park is reverse, lights and all. Like two reverse gears

Have you checked both the shift cable/linkage and selector down on the side of the transmission? I would start there.

I’ve not had a lift or good way to look but it seeed like it was in good shape down there. And on the dash the indicator seems pretty accurate. I’ll try to get under and see later

Make sure to check the plate that's bolted to the firewall end of the shift tube. Lots of times those loosen up, and can cause your symptoms.

I don't understand...the bolts are not where they should be, or you don't have replacement bolts?

They're not on the floorboard anywhere hiding under a mat, are they?

If not, dealer or junkyard....

Fixed it for ya...and yes, those would be the ones. Is it a different setup, then? I'm used to 95-02s...

Anyway, you will have the plastic retaining clip on the cable mount at the tranny side, then the plastic hole in the shift tube/cable end that pops onto the actual tranny shift lever. Both pieces are likely suspects. Otherwise, if they are nice and tight, and the adjusting nut hasn't slipped, you could always do a cable adjust and see if that fixes it, or if it uncovers something else.

Well, today the shift cable broke.
Thanks for all the help, I webt ahead and pulled the old one but I’ll gave to wait till Monday to get a new one IF ford carry’s one. So I might just pass all that and order it online for cheaper and just park where I can pull through till it comes in.

Got the new part today, put it all back together, adjusted it and it’s all better now. Pretty easy fix, guess I was just nervous about it when it first happened - but it was simple thankfully
