So I have a 2004 Crown Victoria P71. Currently it has 211k on the clock and is running near perfect due to my meticulous maintenance.

I did the J-Mod about 20k miles or more ago and I couldn't be happier. About a week ago I did a transmission pan drop and the fluid was in perfect condition, the pan was clean, and the magnet had very little material on it. I do change my transmission oil every 12k miles but still I'm just surprised at how clean the fluid and pan is compared to before I did the J-mod.

That said, I still have 211k on the clock so I decided to look for the same transmission in the yard just to practice and learn from. Really just fell in love with transmissions now..lol

Funny how when you're not really in need and you can take your time the deals pop up. Just today I scored a 4R70W out of a 2004 Towncar that has only 89k miles on it and was already pulled. At this particular yard they pull engines and transmissions and they store them on wooden pallets inside of a huge warehouse protected from the elements. You drive up and and inspect before you buy then they help you load it in your trunk. If you're young and healthy the transmission can be lifted by yourself if you remove the torque converter. Once I removed the torque converter I was able to take it to the car wash and carefully pressure wash the exterior no problem.

So now I'm going to figure out which direction I'm going to go with this second transmission I have. I already have a new Sonnax forward clutch drum and I would really love to install it as well as other upgrades. The fluid in this transmission is just like the fluid in my car: Cherry Red. I almost don't even want to crack her open other then to do the Jmod. Once I open up the transmission pan and valve body I will really see more about the condition she's in.
